Lincoln Stars News Release
Lincoln, Neb. - Despite a 66-save performance from Stars goalie Peyton Jones, the Stars finished their season with a 4-3 double-overtime loss to the Waterloo Black Hawks in Young Arena on Sunday night.
Waterloo came out firing in the first period, getting on the board at 11:10 of the first when Yuri Terao capitalized on a rebound for a power play goal.
The Stars responded roughly four minutes later when Ludvig Hoff picked up a puck in front of the crease, waited for Black Hawks goalie Cale Morris to fall then curled a shot into the cage to make it 1-1 before the first intermission.
The teams traded four goals in the second. Biagio Lerario and Collin Peters scored for the Stars to make it 3-2, but the lead evaporated toward the end of the second when Sam McCormick crashed the net for a rebound at 18:36 of the period.
Waterloo and Lincoln combined for 24 shots in the third period, but were unable to break the dead lock, sending the game to overtime for the first time in the series.
Neither team found the net in the first overtime as the Stars rode Jones for 17 saves in the extra session.
In the second overtime Black Hawks forward Ronnie Hein capitalized on an unfortunate turnover in the neutral zone and potted a shot over the left shoulder of Jones.
Waterloo advances to the Western Conference final where the Black Hawks will play the Tri-City Storm.
