Stars defeat San Antonio in OT

Cedar Park, TX - The Texas Stars defeated the San Antonio Rampage 3-2 in overtime Saturday night in front of 6,221 fans at Cedar Park Center. Stars' forward Greg Rallo scored the game-winning goal with 15 seconds left in overtime. Texas defenseman Ivan Vishnevskiy and forward Perttu Lindgren also scored in the Stars first win in team history. Defenseman Shaun Heshka and center Kevin Porter each scored for San Antonio. Stars' goalie Matt Climie made 34 saves for the victory. San Antonio goalie Al Montoya made 28 saves in a losing effort. Texas will play in Houston on Friday and Saturday at 7:35 pm (CDT).

In the first period, Texas claimed a 1-0 lead when defenseman Ivan Vishnevskiy scored his second goal in as many games. Center Kevin DeVergilio dropped a pass off for the Stars' defenseman, who snapped in the first home goal in team history at 12:16 for the 1-0 Texas lead. San Antonio countered, tying the game 1-1 at 16:20 of the opening period. Defenseman Shaun Heshka scored off a rebound in front of the Texas net, notching his first goal of the season. Texas answered back 31 seconds after San Antonio tied the game. Center Colton Sceviour sprung forward Perttu Lindgren on a breakaway. Lindgren beat Montoya at 16:51 for the 2-1 lead.

After a scoreless second period, San Antonio center Kevin Porter scored, tying the game 2-2 with only 2:27 left in the third period. The two teams would remain scoreless and skate into overtime tied 2-2.

Stars' forward Greg Rallo scored the game-winning goal for Texas with only 15 seconds left in overtime. Center Travis Morin found Rallo in front of the San Antonio net with a pass to the crease. Rallo redirected his first goal of the season into the back of the Rampage net for the 3-2 win.

Prior to the game, the Stars announced that defenseman Brad Lukowich was assigned by the NHL's Vancouver Canucks. Lukowich has played in 852 professional games, including 640 in the NHL with San Jose, Dallas, Tampa Bay, New Jersey and the New York Islanders. Lukowich is a two-time Stanley Cup Champion, winning the cup in 1999 with Dallas and with Tampa Bay in 2004.

Texas will play two road games in Houston next weekend prior to hosting the Grand Rapids Griffins at Cedar Park Center on Thursday, October 15th at 7:30 pm.
