New Britain Bees News Release

(New Britain, Conn) - New Britain Bees Manager Stan Cliburn achieved his 1,600th career managerial victory tonight as the Bees defeated the Long Island Ducks 7-0 at New Britain Stadium. The win gives Cliburn 54 wins this season with the Bees.

Cliburn began his managerial career in 1988 with the Watertown Pirates of the New-York Penn League following a 14 year playing career culminating with 54 major league games with the California Angels. Over his 29 year managerial career, Cliburn has spent time leading both the AA and AAA affiliates of the Minnesota Twins. In the Atlantic League, Cliburn served as hitting coach under former New Britain Red Sox manager Butch Hobson on the 2014 Atlantic League Champion Lancaster Barnstormers staff before leading the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs to the Atlantic League Championship as manager in 2015. Cliburn was named the first manager in New Britain Bees history on December 15, 2015.

Across 6 seasons with the New Britain Rock Cats and now the Bees, Cliburn has tallied 485 wins managing New Britain's professional baseball teams, making him the winningest manager in the Hardware City's professional baseball history, which dates back 132 years. With the Rock Cats, Cliburn led the 2001 team, which included future major leaguers David Ortiz, Michael Cuddyer, Justin Morneau and current Long Island Ducks Bench Coach/Outfielder Lew Ford, to the 2001 Eastern League Co-Championship.

"Stan is a fixture in New Britain baseball history, and there is no better way for him to achieve this milestone with the Bees," said Bees General Manager Patrick Day. "As both his colleague and friend, I want to congratulate Stan on this fantastic accomplishment and look forward to many more wins for Stan with the Bees."

The Bees will honor Stan Cliburn's accomplishment prior to Tuesday's game against the Bridgeport Bluefish at New Britain Stadium. Fans are encouraged to be in their seats by 6:15 PM for the ceremony.
