Sioux Falls Stampede News Release

Sioux Falls, SD-Two first period goals proved to be enough for the Sioux Falls Stampede as they downed the Sioux City Musketeers 3-1 Friday night at the Scheels IcePlex in preseason play. Nathan Dingman, Charlie Raith and Eric MacAdams all scored goals while Jeremy Swayman was solid between the pipes, stopping 42 of 43 shots. The Herd are now 3-1-0 in preseason play with their final exhibition game taking place Saturday night in Sioux City.

After a scoreless first half of the period, the Stampede got on the board at 11:07 when Nathan Dingman took the puck in the high slot and fired it just underneath the Sioux City crossbar and into the net to give the Herd a 1-0 edge. Just 42 seconds later the Herd added to their lead when Jack Doremus and Lean Bergmann teamed up to find Charlie Raith on the left point who wristed a shot through traffic and past Sioux City netminder Ryan Ferland to make it a 2-0 lead.

Sioux City would get on the board at 17:39 when Jacob Wilson broke down the right wing side and slid the puck through the slot to Connor McMenamin who slapped the puck past Stampede goaltender Jeremy Swayman. The Stampede outshot the Musketeers 11-10.

Sioux City started to take control of play in the second period, but Swayman was up to the challenge, stopping all 16 shots between the pipes. Midway through the second period Swayman made the save of the night after a turnover behind the Stampede net, the Musketeers tried to wrap around the net and score, but Swayman dived across the goal creased and stopped the puck with his stick to keep it a 2-1 game. The Musketeers outshot the Herd 21-12 in the period.

Sioux City looked to tie the game in the third, but the Stampede stood strong behind a good defensive effort and limited scoring opportunities. When the Musketeers did break free, Swayman was there again to answer the call, stopping all 11 shots faced. Sioux City pulled their goaltender with 1:30 left in game, but the Stampede made them pay, scoring with 59 seconds remaining in the game. Eric MacAdams took a pass from Jack Doremus at center ice and squeaked into the Musketeers zone, wristing a shot into the back of the empty net to seal a 3-1 victory.

Sioux City outshot the Herd 42-34 on the night and went 0-for-1 on the power play while the Stampede finished the night 0-for-2.

The Herd will travel down to Sioux City Saturday night in their final exhibition game of the year before opening the regular season at the PREMIER Center next Saturday at 7:05 PM. Tickets for the opener are available through the KELOLAND Box Office or any Ticketmaster location.
