Sioux Falls Stampede News Release

Sioux Falls, SD-The Lincoln Stars scored 1:59 into overtime to top the Stampede 3-2 before 4,789 fans Friday night at the PREMIER Center on Ugly Christmas Sweater night. The Stars rallied from a 2-1 deficit to top the Stampede who earned a point in the game, but fell to 9-12-2 on the season. Jason O'Neill led the way with a goal and an assist while Eric MacAdams also scored for the Herd. Mikhail Berdin stopped 38 shots in goal for the Herd who have earned at least a point in five of their last six home games.

Although Lincoln was the road team they had the early jump in the game scoring just 3:09 into the first period. Justin Kendall took the puck inside the left circle and wristed a shot that traveled through traffic and deflected off Berdin's glove and into the back of the net to give the Stars a 1-0 lead. The Herd struggled for the remainder of the period, being outshot 19-7, but Berdin kept the Stars off the board for the rest of the period and the score remained 1-0 after one.

In the second, the Stampede picked up their play and tied the game at 10:25 when Jason O'Neill tallied his 10th of the season. Justin Wells wristed a shot onto the Lincoln goaltender and the rebound bounced out in front of the net where O'Neill quickly swarmed in and tapped the puck into the net to make it a 1-1 game. Sioux Falls outshot Lincoln 13-9 in the period.

Sioux Falls took their first lead of the night just 1:05 into the third period when O'Neill found Eric MacAdams in front of the Stars net and MacAdams found the back of the net to give the Herd a 2-1 edge at the PREMIER Center. The Herd appeared to have taken a 3-1 lead when Max Johnson scored, but after review the game was disallowed with the referee saying the puck was kicked intentionally into the goal. Under a minute later the Stars tied the game when Brandon Schultz fired the puck just underneath the crossbar to make it a 2-2 game.

The rest of the period was filled with penalties with Lean Bergmann assessed a five minute major followed by a two-minute penalty on Josh Passolt to give the Stars a 5-on-3. The Herd were able to kill that off and even drew a five minute power play towards the end of the period, but were not able to score and the game went into overtime.

In the extra session, Sioux Falls started with 45 seconds of 4-on-3 power play time, but couldn't get the puck past Lincoln goaltender Derek Schaedig and it remained tied. The Stars would take the game when Henry Bowlby took the puck in the slot and wristed it past Berdin to give the Stars a 3-2 victory.

Lincoln outshot the Herd 41-33 on the night and went 0-for-3 on the power play while the Herd finished 0-for-4. The Stampede are now 1-0-1 against the Stars this season.

Sioux Falls returns to action Saturday when they travel to Sioux City to face the Musketeers at 7:05 PM. Fans can catch the game live on KELO News Talk 1320-AM, 107.9-FM and online at KELO.com.
