Springfield Armor News Release

WILMINGTON, Del. - Entering halftime trailing by three, the Springfield Armor (3-10), presented by MGM Springfield, held the Delaware 87ers (3-11) to a combined 33 points in the second half to salvage a weekend split with an 87-76 win Saturday night at the Bob Carpenter Center.

The Armor defense clamped down as Springfield outscored Delaware 47-33 over the final 24 minutes to climb out of an early hole and claim its third victory of the season.

Nine points from Lorenzo Brown allowed the Sevens to gain an early advantage in the first quarter, but Springfield's 15-9 edge in the rebounding facet and seven points from forward Dennis Horner gave the Armor a 24-23 lead after the first 12 minutes. Horner started hot, hitting three of his first six shots including a 1-of-2 effort from beyond the arc one night after dropping a season-high 27 against Delaware inside the MassMutual Center.

The Sevens battled back from the one-point deficit in the second, eventually taking the lead and stretching their advantage to as large as seven. An 8-0 run by the Armor, capped by a put-back layup from Larry Anderson, put Springfield back in the driver's seat with less than four minutes to play before the half. A late scoring spree by the Sevens dropped the Armor into a three-point hole, entering the locker room at 43-40. The two teams changed leads nine times over the first 24 minutes and pulled even with each other six times.

Springfield's defense was in full force during the third quarter, holding the Sevens to just 15 points while Horner added nine in the period as the Armor took a 60-58 lead into the fourth. The frame was capped by a last-second bucket by Lance Hurdle that gave Springfield its two-point edge.

The Armor pushed their lead to eight halfway through the fourth and eventually to double figures within the game's final two minutes, finishing off an 87-76 victory.

Horner's 27 points matched his season-high set one night ago against Delaware in Springfield. Adonis Thomas continued his torrid pace after being activated from injury before Friday night's game, logging 17 points. Anderson put together his biggest performance since joining the team yesterday from the league's available player pool, scoring 16 points off the bench on 6-of-13 shooting.

The Armor outrebounded the Sevens 53-38, while the teams were even at 40 percent from the floor each. Springfield missed just three free throws (11-of-14) on the night and forced 20 turnovers, registering 17 steals.

The Armor return to the court in 2014 on January 3 for a home tilt at 7:00 p.m. against the Tulsa 66ers in the first and only meeting between the two teams this season.
