Sporting KC and the Cordish Companies Announce New Entertainment Concept

January 12, 2016 - Major League Soccer (MLS)
Sporting Kansas City News Release

Sporting Kansas City announced Tuesday that the club has partnered with the Kansas City Power & Light District and Entertainment Consulting International to create a new flagship restaurant and entertainment concept in the Kansas City Power & Light District called No Other Pub.

Located at 1370 Grand Blvd., the 21,000-square-foot No Other Pub represents an extension of the Sporting Kansas City brand into a new form of entertainment. The space will open on Feb. 22 with exclusive pre-opening events held on dates to be announced later.

"Our club has celebrated many special moments at Power & Light in recent years, including the announcement of the rebrand in 2010," Sporting Club CEO Robb Heineman said. "On that day, we stated our desire for Sporting Kansas City to become a true cultural brand for our fans. The opening of No Other Pub is a natural extension for us. We are excited to create more memorable experiences at P&L and expand our brand to more people in a new environment."

The announcement of No Other Pub comes on the heels of another high-profile and high-energy fall for the Power & Light District, with an October of nationally recognized Royals watch parties quickly followed by the opening of One Light Luxury Apartments.

"We are on a great run," said Nick Benjamin, Executive Director of the Power & Light District. "In a lot of ways our current momentum and growth, and that of downtown as a whole, really took off with our partnership with Sporting KC to put on World Cup Watch Parties in 2010. The success of those events and the national attention they generated gave us lift that we are still feeling today. It feels appropriate now as we start the District's second phase that we are taking this exciting next step of bringing a Sporting entertainment concept to the District. We think No Other Pub by Sporting KC will offer Kansas Citians an entertainment experience unlike any other in the region. This is a huge step forward for the District."

Similar to Children's Mercy Park, No Other Pub will feature distinct areas within the space, with each offering a unique experience for guests. Designed to be a sports, social and entertainment playground for millennials, the establishment will showcase the following components:

A social lounge with a comprehensive selection of every local craft beer and spirit made in Kansas City, including a daily happy hour consisting of these local products

A gaming parlor with bowling, golf simulators, table tennis, shuffleboard, foosball and darts

An expansive sports bar with a 10-foot by 15-foot video wall and an array of other large-screen televisions, making it the premier destination to watch sporting events in Kansas City, including all home and away matches for Sporting KC

No Other Pub will offer a full food and drink menu for all ages in addition to a fast-casual taco stand. Select booths within the establishment will feature table taps, allowing guests the ability to refresh their own beverages without having to miss any of the action. All visitors will stay connected through free Wi-Fi and the ability to charge their smart phones directly at bar counters. The place will also cater to corporate events and private parties.

No Other Pub will be the new home for Sporting Kansas City watch parties hosted by Sporting KC supporters groups. The "No Other Pub" name is a tribute to the Kansas City Cauldron's popular chant "No Other Club." Supporters visiting the pub will receive discounts and other exclusive benefits during Sporting KC matches. The space will also serve as a transportation depot for all Sporting KC supporters before and after matches at Children's Mercy Park.

No Other Pub is the most recent addition to the Power & Light District, in a year that included the openings of One Light Luxury Apartments, One Life Fitness Center, Yardhouse and Cleaver & Cork. More broadly in 2015, downtown has seen the near-completion of the streetcar line, the announcement of an 800-key convention center hotel and 1,100 other hotel keys, and the announcement of more than 3,000 new apartment units in a downtown that has already quadrupled its population in the last 10 years.

"This is the latest in a series of exciting developments in our downtown," said Mayor Sly James. "It is truly exciting to see one of our great sports franchises and one of our great entertainment districts joining forces to bring this unique new concept to Kansas City. Kansas City will be the better for it and I can't wait to watch an away Sporting game there and bowl a few rounds this spring."
