Everett Silvertips News Release
KENNEWICK, Wash. - Hudson Elynuik's second goal of the game stood as the winner 30 seconds into the extra period as the Spokane Chiefs rallied late to defeat the Everett Silvertips, 4-3 in overtime, at a preseason tournament hosted by the Tri-City Americans on Wednesday.
The Silvertips staged three unanswered goals and were led by snipes from Lucas Skrumeda, Connor Dewar, and Patrick Bajkov. Carter Hart stopped 28 shots while counterpart Jayden Sittler earned the win on 27 saves.
Elynuik manufactured a 1-0 lead for Spokane just 8:36 into the game and Jeff Faith tallied a power-play goal, 2:51 later for a 2-0 edge until the Silvertips finally got on the board with a set face-off play before the horn.
Devon Skoleski quickly worked the puck to Noah Juulsen, whose relay found Skrumeda's wheelhouse and stick for a one-timer with less than three seconds to play, cutting the deficit to 2-1.
The Silvertips cruised with momentum into the second period and promptly followed up with Dewar's third goal of the preseason 56 seconds into the frame for a 2-2 tie. Everett produced a scramble play at the Spokane net, where Dewar crashed and spun a shot over Sittler's blocker.
With 5:57 to play, Bajkov's first goal of the preseason gave the Tips their first lead at 3-2. The Silvertips forward beat the Spokane defense with speed into the attacking zone, muscling a shot on net that rolled over Sittler and into the net.
The Chiefs used a 14-10 shots advantage in the third period to knot the score with 1:52 to play on Pavel Kousal's goal. Then just 30 seconds into overtime, a lengthy shift opened a play for Elynuik, capitalizing off a switch and firing a puck on net that deflected in for the winner.
The Silvertips moved their record to 1-2-1-0 in preseason.
