Spitfires Too Hot to Handle

Oshawa Generals News Release

Windsor, Ontario - A tired Generals team made their only trip this season to the WFCU Centre in Windsor on Sunday, where they played a Spitfires squad who had won their past three games. Penalty troubles caught up with the Generals as the Spitfires won 3-2 in a true barn-burner, in front of a crowd of 5,670. Daniel Altshuller made his second start in 24 hours, making 21 saves in the losing effort. Chris Carlisle was involved in both Generals goals with two assists, giving him 7 on the season.

Windsor controlled the opening half of the first period, trying to wear down the Generals with big hits and a relentless fore-check. The Spitfires didn't allow the Generals a shot until Oshawa was on the power play, 11:02 into the period. On that power play, Michael Dal Colle received a pass from Chris Carlisle in the slot and ripped the puck past Spits netminder Jaroslav Pavelka, giving the Generals a 1-0 lead. The goal seemed to stun the Spitfires, as the Generals controlled the play for the majority of the second half of the period. Bradley Latour added to the Generals lead as he picked up the loose puck in front of the Windsor crease, and with some quick hands put the Generals up 2-0. Windsor would respond with 2:06 left in the period, as Trevor Murphy took a point shot that beat a screened Daniel Altshuller, making the score 2-1 for the Generals.

The second period was a back and forth affair with both teams gaining momentum off the other teams penalties. Midway through the period, the Generals thought their power play unit had extended the lead. Sebastian Uvira put the puck home after it squeaked through Pavelka, but a goal review showed that the puck had been hit with a high-stick prior to Uvira scoring, so the goal was disallowed. Windsor pressed hard to tie the game, forcing the Generals to take penalties to slow them down. On the Spitfires 7th opportunity of the game, Windsor pressed the Generals between the hash-marks before Kerby Rychel fired the puck past Altshuller, tying the game 2-2.

The two teams seemed evenly matched in the third, with both teams buzzing in each end. Windsor took a four minute penalty giving the Generals a perfect opportunity to re-take the lead, but a powerful Spitfires penalty-kill denied the Generals even one shot on the man-advantage, rousing the home crowd to get behind their team. Windsor put the game away on the power play with 1:50 left in the game, when Trevor Murphy blasted a one-timer past Altshuller for his second of the game. The 3-2 lead was too much for the Generals to overcome, as the Spitfires held on for their fourth win in a row.

Michael Dal Colle was the lone Generals player in the three-star selection, earning the third star selection. Shots finished 26-24 for the Generals.

The Generals next game is on the 13th as they travel to Barrie to take on the Colts. They then return home to the General Motors Centre for Teddy Bear Toss Night against Belleville on December 14th. Puck drop is at 7:35pm.
