Spirit Slip to Frontenacs 6-1

KINGSTON, ONT. - The Saginaw Spirit continued their weekend endeavors at the K-Rock Centre on Friday night, as they faced off against the Kingston Frontenacs for the first of two meetings this season. The Frontenacs scored four goals in the second period en route to a 6-1 win over the Spirit.

Most of the first period was scoreless, but the Fronts broke through against Saginaw's Evan Cormier on a goal by Conor McGlynn at 15:51 to take a 1-0 lead. Juho Lammikko was credited with the assist on the lone goal of the period. Kingston controlled play in the first, outshooting Saginaw, 17-6.

The Frontenacs were keen on building their first period lead, as they scored four goals in the middle frame to keep the Spirit off the board after 40 minutes. Kingston's Chad Duchesne needed 18 seconds into the period to notch a 2-0 lead, with help from Roland McKeown. Michael Dal Colle, Lawson Crouse and Spencer Watson each picked up a second period tally to create a comfortable 5-0 lead over the Spirit. Shots in the second period favored the Kingston Frontenacs, 16-7.

Saginaw's Cameron Zanussi hit the ice for the second time in a Spirit sweater, as he relieved Evan Cormier of his goaltending duties to start the final period. Saginaw was granted their third power play opportunity towards the midway mark of the period, as Kingston's Graeme Brown was whistled for hooking. On the ensuing power play, Keaton Middleton ripped a shot for Brady Gilmour to deflect the puck past Lucas Peressini and put the Spirit on the board at 9:02 of the third period. Marcus Crawford also picked up an assist on Gilmour's fourth goal of the season. As the final moments of the contest were coming to a close, Conor McGlynn puts a cap on the night's scoring to notch a 6-1 win over the Spirit with three seconds left on the board. Kingston outshot Saginaw by a total of 48-22.
