State College Spikes News Release

STATE COLLEGE, PA - The State College Spikes battled back to tie the game in the bottom of the ninth, but Drew Bridges homered in the 10th to give the Staten Island Yankees a 3-2 victory in Game Two of the New York-Penn League Semifinal Series on Thursday night at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park.

The series is now tied, 1-1, with the third and deciding game set for Friday night at 7:05 p.m. at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park. Fans can enjoy another $1 Beer Night, presented by BIG Froggy 101, with $1 12-oz. domestic draft beers available for fans of age from 6-8 p.m.

The Spikes had overcome a 2-0 deficit in their last at-bat with Tommy Edman's one-out single to score both Danny Hudzina and Yariel Gonzalez.

In the 10th, the Spikes still had a chance to win the game, loading the bases with one out. However, Trevor Lane (1) forced Gonzalez to ground into a double play to end the game.

The game was delayed 46 minutes between the ninth and 10th innings due to rain, and Bridges greeted the resumption of the game with a solo home run to right field on the second pitch of the 10th.

Staten Island took the lead in the first when Dom Thompson-Williams led off the game with a single, moved to second on an error, advanced to third on a groundout, and scored on Timmy Robinson's groundout to short.

The Yankees then added a run in the sixth when Ben Ruta drew a bases-loaded walk from State College starter Jordan Hicks. Hicks lasted 5 2/3 innings, allowing two runs on four hits and six walks while striking out one batter.

Brady Bowen (0-1) took the loss for the Spikes after giving up the home run to Bridges in the tenth. Bowen recorded three straight outs after the long ball, one via strikeout.

Yankees reliever Josh Roeder (1-0) got the win despite allowing both State College runs. Roeder yielded a total of two hits and a walk while striking out one in the ninth, which was his lone inning of work. Lane earned the save with a scoreless 10th.

Right-hander Carson Cross, who went 5-6 with a 3.24 ERA in the regular season, gets the ball for the Spikes in Friday's deciding game of the New York-Penn League Semifinal Series. Staten Island will go with right-hander Simon De La Rosa, who went 6-4 with a 3.38 ERA in the regular season.
