Sparks Named CCM/AHL Player of the Week

The American Hockey League announced today that Toronto Marlies goaltender Garret Sparks has been selected as the CCM/AHL Player of the Week for the period ending March 25th.

Sparks has registered a 3-1-0-0 record, with a shutout on Sunday against the Springfield Thunderbirds for a franchise record six in one season. This week, he won all three of this starts, recording a 1.73 goals-against average and a .941 save percentage. Sparks made 96 saves facing 102 shots over 208:36 of play.

Sparks, 24, leads the AHL in GAA (1.78) and shutouts (6, tied), appearing in 39 games (27-9-1-1) for the Marlies this season. Sparks has played 117 games for the Toronto Marlies since 2012, with a record of 76-28-5, with a 2.13 GAA and .927 save percentage. Sparks was named CCM/AHL Goaltender of the Month in January. He made his NHL debut with the Toronto Maple Leafs on November 30, 2015, recording a shutout against the Edmonton Oilers. Sparks was drafted 190th overall in the seventh round by the Maple Leafs in 2011.

The Toronto Marlies are the primary development program for the Toronto Maple Leafs. The current Toronto Maple Leafs roster features 13 players who were developed by the Marlies (Tyler Bozak, Connor Brown, Connor Carrick, Travis Dermott, Jake Gardiner, Zach Hyman, Andreas Johnsson, Nazem Kadri, Kasperi Kapanen, Leo Komarov, Josh Leivo, William Nylander and Morgan Rielly).

The Toronto Marlies play the Laval Rocket on Wednesday at Ricoh Coliseum at 7:00 p.m. ET and head to Winnipeg for back-to-back games against the Manitoba Moose on Friday at 7:30 p.m. CDT and on Saturday at 2:00 p.m. CDT.
