Sox Flop in Season Finale, 12-0

Everett, WA - The Everett AquaSox (18-17) were defeated in a twelve-run blowout against the Eugene Emeralds (16-19) on Wednesday, August 30, 2017 at Everett Memorial Stadium.

The Emeralds challenged the Frogs with a lead-off double by Zach Davis to start the game. Davis would score on a balk called on Andres Torres giving Eugene an early lead, 1-0. The Frogs fought back in the bottom half with a Joe Venturino hitting a single and Eugene Helder's double, but the they were unable to bring any runners home.

The Frogs threatened the Emeralds with the bases loaded in the second inning by the way of an Onil Pena walk, Aaron Stroosma single and a Chris Torres single. All three Frogs were left stranded when Emeralds pitcher Jesus Camargo struck out Venturino to end the inning, 1-0.

Torres gave up another run to Jared Young who launched a solo homerun in the third inning to extend the Emeralds lead, 2-0.

Eugene attacked the Frogs in the fifth inning with three straight hits giving Eugene a 4-0 lead. The Emeralds weren't finished with the Frogs as Austin Filiere sent the ball over the fence for a two-run homer, 6-0.

The Sox were set down in order for two straight innings by Camargo in the fourth and fifth.

With the bases loaded and one out in the sixth inning, right fielder Jansiel Rivera made a clutch play on an Filiere hit ball by allowing it to bounce in front of him and make the force play at home plate. Rivera prevented the Emeralds from scoring with the bases loaded. However, Michael Cruz blasted the ball over center field for a three-run homer giving the Emeralds a 10-0 lead.

Pena hit a two-out double in the sixth inning, his 13th of the season. Pena was left stranded as Stroosma hit a flyout to centerfield, 10-0.

Chris Singleton was the second Emerald of the night to hit his first career homerun with a two-run shot over left field in the top of the seventh, 12-0.

Matt Clancy relieved Fabian Roman in the eighth inning with two outs and two runners on. C. Torres handled all three outs in the inning by the way of two pop ups including a double play pop out at the third base fence, 12-0.

The Sox would attempt two-out magic with Rivera walking and Austin Grebeck singling down the right field line. The magic would vanish as C. Torres would ground out to first baseman Will Remillard to end the last game of the regular season at home. On the last home game of the season, the Everett AquaSox recorded seven hits in nine scoreless innings in their loss against the Eugene Emeralds in front of 3,013 fans, 12-0.
