Salt Lake Bees News Release

SALT LAKE CITY - The Salt Lake Bees fell to the Nashville Sounds Saturday night 12 to 6 in front of 11,228 fans on Military Appreciation Night. Nate Smith (3-2) took the loss after tossing four innings, allowing nine earned runs. The Nashville Bats exploded in the fifth inning for five runs including a Joey Wendle grand-slam which knocked out the Salt Lake starter. Nashville scored three runs in the third, two runs in the fourth and five in the fifth to put the game out of reach early. After Nashville added a run in the sixth, Salt Lake responded with two of their own off the bat of second baseman, Sherman Johnson in the seventh inning. Johnson took a 1-0 fastball from Ryan Doolittle and sent it deep onto the right field berm.

A.J Achter, David Carpenter, Al Alburquerque and Chris O'Grady combined for five innings out of the Salt Lake Bullpen. As a unit, they finished with two earned runs against the ledger and struck out four. Offensively, the Bees were led by Johnson who finished two-for-four with a walk, fielder's choice, a single and a homerun. The newly acquired Erik Kratz picked up his first hit as a Bee in the second inning on a double down the left field line. Kratz finished the night 1-for-4, yet reached base three times. Former BYU outfielder Jaycob Brugman hit his first Triple-A home run for the Sounds in the third inning.
