Sounders FC to Face Winner of Kitsap Pumas/Sacramento Republic FC in Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup

SEATTLE, WASH. - U.S. Soccer today announced that Seattle Sounders FC is set to face the winner of the Kitsap Pumas and Sacramento Republic FC matchup in the Fourth Round of the 2016 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup. The match, which is slated to be played on June 15 at 7:30 p.m. PT, will be held at Starfire Stadium, where Sounders FC is 17-1-1 all-time in the tournament. Seattle's opponent is being decided at Sacramento Republic's Bonney Field on June 1, with the USL side taking on local PDL club Kitsap.

Last year, the Rave Green fell by a score of 3-1 in an extra-time loss to the Portland Timbers in the tournament's Fourth Round at Starfire Stadium. The Open Cup, which is the oldest continuous soccer competition in the United States and the third-longest globally, is open to all United States Soccer Federation (USSF) affiliated teams. Winner of the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup in 2009, 2010, 2011 and 2014, Sounders FC is tied with the Chicago Fire for the most titles in the tournament among MLS clubs. Maccabi Los Angeles and Bethlehem Steel FC hold the record with five wins apiece, but both clubs are no longer active. In 2011, Sounders FC became the first team since 1968 to win three consecutive Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup championships.
