Bridgeport Islanders News Release

NORFOLK, Va. (Jan. 26, 2013) - Norfolk forward Emerson Etem recorded two goals and one assist and Frederik Andersen made 23 saves as the Admirals shut out the Bridgeport Sound Tigers 5-0 at Norfolk Scope on Saturday night. With the win, the Admirals improve to 18-21-2-1 overall. The Sound Tigers fall to 19-19-2-2.

Norfolk dictated much of the play in the first period, and took a 1-0 lead 6:11 into regulation. A turnover in the Sound Tigers zone created an offensive opportunity for the Admirals, which resulted in Emerson Etem firing a wrist shot from the slot over the right shoulder of Anders Nilsson. The Admirals outshot the Sound Tigers 16-10 over the opening 20 minutes, and carried their one-goal advantage into the second period where they would increase their lead.

The Admirals attempted to enter the Sound Tigers zone on the power play, but Bridgeport's penalty kill jumped into to break up Norfolk's power play breakout. However, the puck deflected up into the air and onto the stick of Etem as he came into the Sound Tigers zone. Etem found Luca Caputi in front of Nilsson, and Caputi finished the broken play by shooting through Nilsson's legs to give the Admirals a 2-0 lead 7:30 into the second period.

Josh Brittain scored his second goal in two nights against the Sound Tigers to increase Norfolk's lead to three. Brittain snuck behind Sean Backman on a 2-on-2 rush, took a feed from Dan Sexton as he cut to the net and scored over Nilsson's right shoulder to give the Admirals a 3-0 lead with 5:04 remaining in the second period.

Norfolk netted two power play goals late in the third period to round out the scoring. Etem tallied his second goal of the night with a deflection past Nilsson at 12:47 of the final frame, and Rod Pelley scored on a rebound with 40.9 seconds left in regulation for his second goal of the season.

The Sound Tigers return to action on Thursday night after the AHL All-Star Break when they play host to the Providence Bruins at Webster Bank Arena at 7:00 p.m.

NOTES - The Sound Tigers dressed the same lineup as they did in Friday night's game vs. Norfolk; the only change was Nilsson as starting goaltender ... The 5-0 loss marked the first time the Sound Tigers had been shut out since a 3-0 defeat in Binghamton on March 21, 2012 ... Anders Nilsson stopped 30 shots in the loss.
