BRIDGEPORT, CT -- Bridgeport Sound Tigers defenseman Mark Katic has been selected to participate in the 2010 AHL All-Star Classic. Katic will be part of the Canadian All-Star team, comprised of players born in Canada.

Katic has tallied 12 total points, scoring three goals and adding nine assists, for the Sound Tigers this year. In his rookie year for the club, the native of Porcupine, ON has played in 34 of Bridgeport's 36 games.

"I didn't expect this at all," Katic said. "It is a great honor to be chosen and I'm looking forward to playing in the game."

A third round draft choice of the New York Islanders in the 2007 NHL Entry Draft, Katic spent the last four seasons playing for the Sarnia Sting in the Ontario Hockey League. In his final campaign last year, Katic posted 54 points (13 goals and 41 assists).

"This is a great accomplishment for him," Sound Tigers Head Coach Jack Capuano said. "He has impressed people around the league and it's a well-deserved honor."

Katic's Canadian squad will take on the PlanetUSA All-Stars, a team of American-born players, in the 2010 Time Warner Cable AHL All-Star Classic on Tuesday, January 19th at the Cumberland County Civic Center in Portland, Maine. The All-Star festivities will also feature a skills competition on Monday, January 18th at 8:00 pm. The complete Canadian All-Star roster was announced by the AHL office Tuesday. The PlanetUSA roster will be announced Wednesday.
