February 5, 2013 - American Hockey League (AHL) - Bridgeport Islanders News Release
BRIDGEPORT, Conn. (Feb. 5, 2013) - The Bridgeport Sound Tigers will be hosting their first ever Big Brothers Big Sisters Day at Webster Bank Arena on Sunday, Feb. 10 when the Sound Tigers play the Worcester Sharks at 3:00 p.m.
Volunteer mentors, known as "Bigs", will attend Sunday's game along with their "Littles" and Big Brothers Big Sisters will be on hand to promote the importance of mentorship amongst our local youth and fundraise to support mentoring programs.
"Big Brothers Big Sisters provides a vital service to our local and national community," Sound Tigers President Howard Saffan said. "We're proud to partner with Big Brothers Big Sisters to promote mentorships that can have positive impacts on children's lives."
Big Brothers Big Sisters will maintain a booth in the Arena concourse throughout the game to provide opportunities for fans to enroll as a mentor, or to register a child for the mentorship program.
"Our matches are thrilled to attend Sunday's Sound Tigers game to cheer on the Sound Tigers. We appreciate the fundraising and awareness raising opportunity this partnership has given BBBS, and couldn't be more grateful to the Sound Tigers organization," BBBSSWCT Marketing Manager Rebecca Flynn said.
The Sound Tigers will also host a clothing drive prior to Sunday's game, where fans are encouraged to donate gently used clothing and shoes. Please bring your items to the donation truck at the front of the arena; these items will help fund mentoring programs in the area.
