Sound Hitting Road for Two

December 29, 2006 - American Basketball Association (ABA)
Strong Island Sound News Release

Patchogue, N.Y. - Following New Year's weekend, the Strong Island Sound will set out on a two-game road trip, followed by a home date on the third evening. The first leg of the trip will find the Sound in Richmond, Virginia to face the 4-7 Ballerz at Fort Lee on Thursday, January 4th. This will be the team's first meeting of the year. The Sound are currently 10-6 and leading the ABA's Blue Central Division and are on a two-game winning streak.

The Ballerz have been an inconsistent club so far in the 2006-07 season. They have gone 2-3 their last five contests, including a 126-119 home win on December 19th versus the Wilmington Sea Dawgs. 6'7" forward Brian Demarco Williams had a double-double, with 26 points and 15 rebounds. He also chipped in 5 assists. Two new players had major contributions in the victory. Point guard Lugman Jaaber had 17 points, Tyrone Sally had 18 points to go along with 5 defensive boards.

On Friday, January 5th, the Sound will visit Montgomery College in Rockville, Maryland, the home venue of the 6-7 Maryland Nighthawks. These two teams have seen a lot of each other so far this season, with them splitting their first four games. Strong Island defeated the Nighthawks in their first match-up on November 19th at Maryland by a score of 131-123. On November 24th, the Nighthawks evened things up by beating the Sound on Long Island, 147-144 in overtime. On December 10th, the 'Hawks made it two in a row over the Sound with a 128-115 victory in Rockville. Their most recent contest was on December 22nd at Suffolk Community College, where the Sound came away with a 111-101 home win.

Maryland will look to not fall any further back of Strong Island. They currently reside in third place in the division.

A quick turn-around from the road will be a home date on Saturday, January 6th against the 12-3 Vermont Frost Heaves. The expansion club, owned by Sports Illustrated senior writer Alexander Wolff, are leading the Blue North Division over the defending league champion Rochester Razorsharks and expansion Quebec City Kebs, both 9-4. The teams have met on one prior occasion this season. On December 1st, the Sound hosted Vermont and were able to come away with a 104-98 overtime win.
