Soul Fall to Brigade

PHILADELPHIA - The Philadelphia Soul (10-1) fell to the Baltimore Brigade (4-6), with the final score 49-42 in front of 5,990 fans at the Royal Farms Arena on Saturday night.

"Tonight was not one of our best performances," said Soul head coach Clint Dolezel. "We will need to shake off this loss, correct our mistakes and prepare for next week."

Soul WR Darius Reynolds led the receivers with eight receptions for 115 yards and two touchdowns. WR Shaun Kauleinamoku added five receptions for 42 yards and three touchdowns and WR Ryan McDaniel tallied four receptions for 70 yards. Baltimore WR Brandon Thompkins led the receivers with six receptions for 93 yards and one touchdown.

Philadelphia QB Dan Raudabaugh completed 18-of-28 passes for 247 yards and five touchdowns. Baltimore QB Shane Carden completed 20-of-32 passes for 271 yards and five touchdowns.

The Brigade won the toss and elected to kick off to the Philadelphia Soul. A bar ball kick off was recovered by the Brigade but Carden and his offense were unable to capitalize and the Soul took over with 11:17 remaining in the first quarter. Raudabaugh connected with Reynolds for a 47-yard touchdown and with the successful extra point, the Soul took a 7-0 lead. The Brigade again were unable to complete a first down and the Soul took over. A failed field goal attempt by K Adrian Trevino ended the first quarter with the Soul leading 7-0.

FB Rory Nixon started off the second quarter with a 2-yard touchdown for the Brigade, tying up the game 7-7. The Soul responded with an 8-yard pass from Raudabaugh to Kauleinamoku. Trevino's kick was good and the Soul kept their lead 14-7. Another turnover on downs by Baltimore gave the Soul possession once again. Raudabaugh found SK for his second touchdown of the night and with the made PAT, the Soul stretched the lead 21-7. Carden responded with a 1-yard rushing touchdown for Baltimore. K Pat Clarke's kick was good and with 3:37 to play in the first half, the Soul led 21-14. Reynolds caught his second touchdown of the night on a 6-yard pass from Raudabaugh and the Soul added seven to the board with one minute remaining. In the final seconds of the half, Carden connected with Browning on a 41-yard touchdown pass, bringing the score to 28-21 with the Soul still in the lead.

The Brigade started off the second half with an 18-yard touchdown by Thompkins. With 11:15 to play in the quarter, the score was tied 28-28. FB Mykel Benson ran in his first touchdown of the night for the Soul on a hand-off from Raudabaugh. The kick was good and the Soul regained the lead 35-28. The lead did not last as Carden found WR Brandon Collins for his first touchdown of the night on a 42-yard pass. The score was tied again 35-35 with five minutes remaining in the third quarter. Clarke's kick was recovered by the Brigade and their offense took on to the field again. Carden connected with WR Milton Williams for a 4-yard touchdown and the Brigade took the lead 42-35 at the end of the third quarter.

Raudabaugh's pass was intercepted by DB Varmah Sonie and Baltimore gained possession to begin the final quarter of play. WR Reggie Gray gained his first touchdown of the night with a 4-yard pass from Carden. Extra point was good and the Soul trailed 49-35 with 6:43 remaining. The Soul closed the gap with a 7-yard pass from Raudabaugh to Kauleinamoku for his third touchdown of the night, with the Soul still trailing 49-42. Carden's pass was intercepted by DB Dwayne Hollis and the Soul took over with one minute left in the game however the Soul were unable to score, falling to the Brigade 49-42.

The Soul will return home to host the Washington Valor (1-9) on Saturday, July 15 at 7 p.m. The game will be broadcast live on CBS Sports Network and 97.5 The Fanatic.
