Revs Shut Out by Oliver in Opener

(September 8, 2017 - Bridgewater, NJ): Will Oliver struck out 13 in a complete game shutout as the York Revolution dropped their series opener to the Somerset Patriots 6-0 on Friday night in front of 4,580 fans at TD Bank Ballpark. With the loss, the Revs fall half a game back of first place in the Freedom Division with nine games to play in the regular season.

Each of Oliver's first five outs came on strikeouts, as did eight of his final 11 outs. The right-hander limited York to six hits and did not walk a batter in a 117-pitch effort. His 13 strikeouts tied the most ever in a single game by a Revs opponent.

Alfredo Rodriguez gave Somerset the lead with a first inning leadoff homer down the left field line, his first round tripper of the season. York starter Jared Gaynor settled in to retire his next six batters, but ran into trouble in the third.

Aharon Eggleston reached on an error to begin the home third and Adam Donachie lined an RBI single to right-center to make it 2-0. Rodriguez drove a double off the left field wall to put runners at second and third, and with the infield in, Justin Trapp ripped an RBI single to left, making it a 3-0 game. Trapp stole second to put runners at second and third again. Revs second baseman Alonzo Harris made an outstanding diving catch to start a double play, saving two runs on a shot off the bat of D'Vontrey Richardson. Gaynor struck out cleanup Kyle Roller to end the threat.

Somerset went back to work in the fourth as Mark Minicozzi launched a leadoff home run to left. Rodriguez later drove in a run on a fielder's choice, and Trapp added his second RBI single of the night, closing the scoring.

Jacob Ezell and Hawtin Buchanan each worked a pair of scoreless innings out of the Revs bullpen to finish the game on the mound for York.

Notes: Oliver's complete game is his second in as many starts, following a seven-inning effort in his previous start. The only other pitchers to total 13 strikeouts in a game against the Revs are Lancaster's Eric Junge (June 18, 2010) and Southern Maryland's Daryl Thompson (June 25, 2016), with both occurring in York victories. The loss snaps York's five-game head-to-head winning streak against Somerset, which matched the Revs' longest winning streak in the all-time series. York is now 10-7 vs. Somerset on the season. It is the Revs' first shutout loss since June 27. York lefty Logan Williamson (5-9, 5.52) faces Somerset southpaw Efrain Nieves (3-5, 3.02) on Saturday at 7:05 p.m. Revs fans can catch the action live on SportsRadio 1350, woyk1350.com, and on the WOYK app beginning at 6:45 p.m.

with Darrell Henry on the call.
