Charlotte Stone Crabs News Release

TAMPA, Fla. - David Olmedo-Barrera and Brett Sullivan both homered for the Charlotte Stone Crabs Sunday, but it wasn't enough as the Tampa Yankees took the series finale 4-3 at Steinbrenner Field.

Trailing 1-0, Olmedo-Barrera and Sullivan went deep to right in back-to-back innings to give Charlotte (14-16) a 2-1 lead after four.

However, the slim lead wouldn't hold. With the Stone Crabs up 2-1 in the bottom of the sixth, Drew Smith (1-1) gave up a walk to Jhalen Jackson with one out. Mandy Alvarez followed with a single to center to move Jackson to third. Wes Wilson then flew out to left to score Jackson and tie the game at two.

The next batter was Jorge Mateo, who bounced a ball to third base that Brandon Lowe mishandled, allowing Alvarez to score and give the Yankees a 3-2 lead. Later in the inning, Mateo broke from second, prompting Smith to step off the mound. He then threw wildly to third, allowing Mateo to score to make it 4-2 Tampa.

Down by one in the ninth, the Stone Crabs got three straight singles to load the bases with one out against reliever Dillon McNamara . After a Jake Fraley sacrifice fly made the score 4-3, Jake Cronenworth flew out to left to end the game and give McNamara his third save of the year.

The Stone Crabs will finish their 10-game road trip in Clearwater by opening up a three-game series with the Threshers at 7 p.m. Blake Bivens (2-2, 4.64) makes the start for Charlotte against Jose Taveras (3-1, 1.80) of Clearwater. Coverage begins at 6:45 p.m. on the Stone Crabs Baseball Network.
