Solid Start for Allard, Rome Gets the Win 3-1

Rome, GA - The Rome Braves picked up the win Wednesday afternoon at State Mutual stadium by a final score of 3-1 behind the strong pitching of Kolby Allard.

Rome scored a run in the second inning when Justin Ellison tripled and later scored on Tyler Neslony's single. In the fifth Lucas Herbert tripled for the Braves and Kevin Josephina perfectly executed a safety squeeze by laying down a bunt allowing Herbert to score. Rome made it a 3-1 game in the sixth on Carlos Castro's RBI double. Lexington scored a run in the seventh but Rome held on for the 3-1 win.

The story of the afternoon was Allard who had his best start of the season for Rome going 6.1 innings, allowing just three hits, one run while striking out eleven on the day.

Allard (1-3) gets the win and Glenn Sparkman (0-2) the loss for Lexington. Chase Johnson-Mullins picked up his first save of the season going 2.2 innings allowing one hit and striking out two.

Rome and Columbia play a doubleheader tomorrow beginning at 5 p.m. The first contest is the completion of a suspended game on July 18th that will begin in the second inning and play nine.
