Orlando Solar Bears News Release
Estero, FL - The Orlando Solar Bears comeback effort was stopped just short as they dropped a 4-2 decision to the Everblades at the Germain Arena on Saturday Night.
For the second straight game, the Everblades opened up the scoring early on in the first period. A shot from D Charles Landry was stopped by G John Curry, but the rebound bounced off LW Matt Marquardt and trickled over the goal line to give Florida a 1-0 lead going into intermission. Curry stopped 16 shots in the first frame.
F Justin Shugg put the Everblades up 2-0 early in the second period when he slipped a puck between the post and Curry's pad 21 seconds into the second stanza. Orlando cut the lead in half when C Mathew Sisca found F Ryan Ginand for a one-timer in front of the net. Ginand's shot was stopped, but LW Nick Petersen was right on the doorstep to slam home the rebound with 27 seconds left.
Once gain early in the period the Everblades expanded their lead. A turnover in the defensive zone led to a one-timer from Marquardt, who put home his second of the game, making the score 3-1. C Ryan Cruthers gave Orlando life with 7:09 remaining in regulation when his shot from the top of the slot beat Florida G Pat Nagle through the five-hole, but Florida finished off the game with an empty-netter while shorthanded for the 4-2 win.
