Ontario Fury News Release

The Ontario Fury, Driven by Mark Christopher Chevrolet, got a hat trick from Lucio Gonzaga, but it wasn't enough as the San Diego Sockers scored three power play goals to defeat the Fury 7-5 Sunday in front of 3,078 at Citizens Business Bank Arena.

The two Pacific Division rivals battled to a 2-2 halftime score, as Gonzaga scored both Fury goals and Matt Clare scored both goals for the Sockers. But San Diego scored the first three goals of the third quarter to open a 5-2 lead, as Kraig Chiles scored twice and Nick Perera netted a goal.

But the Fury rallied to tie the game. Shaun David and Gonzaga scored before the end of the third, pulling the score to 5-4. Stephen Basso tied it midway through the fourth, poking a pass from Israel Sesay through goalie Chris Toth's legs.

San Diego took the lead again for good on the power play. With David in the box for tripping, Luan Sales Oliveria found Enrique Tovar alone on the back post, and Tovar deflected the ball into the open net in front of him. The Sockers added a goal with one second left, with the Fury shorthanded and an extra attacker on the field.

The intense game between the two division rivals ended with the two teams combining for 23 fouls and 39 penalty minutes, including 22 of the minutes assessed in the last minute of the game.

With the win, the Sockers move a half-game ahead of the Fury for third place in the Pacific Division, with Ontario holding one game in hand on San Diego. The Sockers hold the first tie-breaker on Ontario on head-to-head wins.

The Fury will head out on the road next Saturday to take on the Pacific Division-leading Soles de Sonora in Hermisillo, Mexico.

Ontario will then come home for a three-game home stand, which will begin Feb. 13 against the Dallas Sidekicks. Tickets for the game, and all Fury home games, are available at the Citizens Business Bank Arena Box Office and online at AXS.com.

Season ticket packages for the 2016-17 Fury season are also now available. Contact the Fury's offices at 909-457-0252 or go to OntarioFury.com for more information.
