Sockers Can Clinch Playoff Berth, Division Title
SAN DIEGO (Wednesday - #17-20) - The Major Arena Soccer League (MASL) announced the Week 16 playoff scenarios for the upcoming 2017-18 Ron Newman Cup playoffs. The 14-time champion San Diego Sockers can clinch a playoff berth on Friday in Tacoma and a division championship on Sunday against Sonora. The scenarios for each division are listed below.
The San Diego Sockers earn a playoff spot with a win over the Tacoma Stars on Friday. They can win the Pacific Division title with wins against Tacoma on Friday and Soles de Sonora on Sunday OR if San Diego wins defeats Tacoma or Sonora and the Ontario Fury lose to the El Paso Coyotes on Friday.
The Turlock Express have been eliminated from the playoffs
The Monterrey Flash have clinched a playoff spot
The RGV Barracudas have been eliminated from the playoffs
The Baltimore Blast can win a playoff spot and the Eastern Division title by defeating the Milwaukee Wave on Saturday OR if the Florida Tropics lose to the Harrisburg Heat on Friday
The Milwaukee Wave have clinched a playoff spot and the Central Division title
The St Louis Ambush have been eliminated from the playoffs
MASL PLAYOFF FORMAT
The 2017-2018 Ron Newman Cup tournament will consist of three rounds; The Divisional Championships, Conference Finals and Ron Newman Cup Championship.
The Divisional Championships will be a home-and-home series with each team getting a chance to host a game. The higher seed will decide which game in the series they would prefer to host. The Conference Finals and Ron Newman Cup Championships will each be decided in a one-game, winner-take-all format. The higher seed will determine the date and location of each game.
