Somerset Patriots News Release
Waldorf, MD - Brad Snyder tied a franchise record for most doubles in one game with three as the slugger helped the Somerset Patriots (22-17) double up the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs (13-25) 10-5 Tuesday evening at Regency Furniture Stadium.
Snyder finished 4-for-5 with three doubles and a home run. The last Patriots player to total three doubles in a single game was Josh Pressley in 2011.
"Tonight was all about taking a deep breath and being more relaxed than I had been," said Snyder who leads the team in home runs. "I was trying to do too much before. It's fun to contribute and hopefully a win like this can get us going on a bit of a roll because we all know we have been scuffling."
After a one-hour rain delay to start the game, Bryan LaHair belted a two run double and Snyder socked an RBI double in the first inning to give Somerset a 3-0 lead. The two lefties combined for six hits and four RBI in the contest.
Southern Maryland would capitalize and plate a run on a wild pitch to make the score 3-1.
In the bottom of the third inning, Zach Wilson clubbed a three-run home run (4) to catapult the Blue Crabs in front.
Somerset responded with three runs of their own in the top of the fourth inning. After a Snyder double, he advanced to third on an error, then Yovan Gonzalez recorded an RBI ground out. Later in the inning both Carlos Guzman and Trayvon Robinson would cross home via wild pitches.
Snyder launched a home run (5) in the fifth inning to expand the Patriots lead to 7-4.
Somerset scored two more in the eighth inning and one more in the ninth as Eric Farris and Gonzalez each poked RBI singles.
Jamar Walton pounded an RBI double in the bottom of the ninth to make the score 10-5, which would be the final.
Mickey Storey (1-2) earned his first win of the season going five innings while allowing four runs. He now has 28 strikeouts on the season to just five walks. Scott Snodgress (1-3) suffered the loss, yielding seven runs in 5.1 innings.
The 2016 Somerset Patriots season presented by Ford continues on the road until the team returns to TD Bank Ballpark on Friday, June 3rd for a 7:05 p.m. game against Bridgeport Bluefish.
