Snappers squeak by Wisconsin
August 7, 2006 - Midwest League (MWL1) - Wisconsin Timber Rattlers News Release
FOX CITIES STADIUM -- Tarrence Patterson scored on a wild pitch in the top of the eleventh inning and the Beloit Snappers held on for a 3-2 win over the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers Monday night. Jose Cordero, the winning pitcher, worked three perfect innings of relief for the Snappers and struck out five. Curt Ledbetter homered and drove in both runs for the Rattlers.
Beloit (61-52 overall, 26-19 second half) took the lead in the top of the first inning. Rattler starting pitcher David Asher committed a balk with runners on second and third to allow the run to score.
Ledbetter got the game back to even with a two-out solo home run in the bottom of the second of Snapper starter Eddie Morlan.
Beloit took advantage of a pair of errors on one play to score another run in the top of the fourth. The Snappers had runners on first and second with one out. Asher tried a pickoff play to first, but Johan Limonta could not handle the throw. Erik Lis, the runner at second, broke for third base. Limonta's throw skipped into the Timber Rattler bullpen and Lis scored for a 2-1 Snapper lead.
Wisconsin (41-74, 14-31) tied the game on another Ledbetter hit. The Rattler designated hitter stepped to the plate with two out and the tying run at third. Ledbetter lined a single into center to knot the game 2-2.
Tarrence Patterson started the top of the eleventh inning with a bunt single and took second when Moore's throw to first glanced off him into right field. A sacrifice bunt by William Luque moved Patterson to third base. Moments later, Lance Beus threw a pitch to the backstop and Patterson headed home with the go ahead run.
David Shinskie, who gave up the game winning home run to Limonta in Sunday's Rattler victory, came in for the save in the bottom of the eleventh. Eddy Hernandez doubled with one out and moved to third as the tying run on an infield grounder. Shinskie struck out Mike Saunders to end the game and pick up his eleventh save of the season.
The final game of the series is Tuesday night. Jose Escalona (6-11, 4.02ERA) is the scheduled starting pitcher for the Rattlers. Beloit sends Zach Ward (8-0, 2.18ERA) to the mound. Game time is 7:05pm.
