Snappers Shock Kernels with Two in 9th
May 11, 2013 - Midwest League (MWL1) - Cedar Rapids Kernels News Release
BELOIT, Wis. - The Beloit Snappers snatched victory away from the Kernels on Saturday when Chad Lewis laced a two-RBI double to deep left field for a come from behind 3-2 walk-off win in the bottom of the 9th inning. The Kernels led 2-1 with one out in the inning, but reliever Manuel Soliman issued a walk to Rashun Dixon and a double to John Wooten before the game-winning hit from Lewis.
Soliman (1-1) pitched 1.1 innings, allowing two runs on two hits while striking out two and walking two.
Tyler Duffey started for the Kernels and went seven innings in a no-decision effort. Duffey allowed one run on four hits. He struck out seven and walked none as he pitched at least seven innings for the fifth time in six starts this season.
The Kernels took their first lead of the game in the top of the 9th inning when Travis Harrison's RBI double to center plated Jorge Polanco, putting Cedar Rapids up 2-1. Polanco singled to begin the inning and was bunted to second base by Dalton Hicks before scoring. Harrison's double was his second two-bagger of the day.
Rahsun Dixon's solo home run to right center in the 2nd inning put Beloit up 1-0. It was Dixon's fourth homer in nine games with the Snappers this season and the only extra-base hit that Duffey allowed.
The Kernels quickly tied the game 1-1 in the top of the 3rd inning on Niko Goodrum's RBI single up the middle. It scored J.D. Williams, who had singled and went to second on a balk by Beloit starter Michael Ynoa. Williams had two hits on the day.
Michael Ynoa went four innings in his start for the Snappers, allowing one run on three hits while punching out seven and walking none.
Ryan Dull (1-1) went one inning in relief for the victory.
