Snappers Lose 3-2 in Clinton on Wednesday

June 15, 2017 - Midwest League (MWL1)
Beloit Sky Carp News Release

Beloit played their Midwest League-high 24th one-run game on Wednesday as the Snappers dropped a 3-2 game in Clinton. The loss makes the Snappers just 2-8 over their last 10 games and are now three games below .500 for the first time since late April. The Snappers will play their final road game of the First Half on Thursday when they finish their series with the LumberKings.

After trailing 3-0 after four innings, the Snappers comeback attempt fell short with the tying run stranded at second base in the ninth inning. Edwin Diaz hit a leadoff single in the final inning and moved around the bases on a Kyle Nowlin walk and Eric Marinez flyout before coming home on a wild pitch. Nowlin was replaced by Luis Barrera as the runner that represented the tying run. Luke Persico delivered an RBI single in the fifth to account for the Snappers first run of the game. Miguel Mercedes also had a single in the game to push his hitting streak to a modest five games.

All three Clinton runs scored on singles by Nick Zammarelli. Clinton led 1-0 after Nate Mondou missed a catch as Zammarelli's first single was being relayed in from center field and allowed Luis Liberato to score. Zammarelli knocked in a pair with two outs in the fourth after the first two hitters got aboard and were bunted over into scoring position.

Seth Martinez logged a career-high five innings in his first starting nod as a professional. Left-hander Kyle Twomey made his Snappers debut on Wednesday in a piggy-back role and pitched the final three innings without allowing a run. He struck out three hitters and allowed just two hits, both in the seventh inning and stranded a runner at third.
