Fargo Force News Release

The United States Hockey League announced today that Fargo Force forward Denis Smirnov has been named the CCM Forward of the Week. This is the third time that he has received player of the week honors for the 2015-16 season.

Smirnov exploded on offense this past weekend, scoring a total of seven points with five goals and two assists, to help the Force sweep the Lincoln Stars at home. Four of the five goals came on Friday night, where he tied the USHL record for most goals scored by a single player in one regular season game. The forward is no stranger to the record book as recently he became just the fifth player in Tier-1 history to have three consecutive 40-point seasons.

The forward from Moscow, Russia has played in all 45 games for the Force this season and leads the team in scoring with 48 points (21 goals, 27 assists). He is currently tied for fourth in scoring overall in the league with Cedar Rapids' Ross Colton. Denis is committed to play college hockey at Penn State University following his junior hockey career.

The Fargo Force will continue their playoff push this weekend on the road at Sioux City on Friday, Lincoln on Saturday and Des Moines on Sunday. The team currently sits in sixth place just three points out of the fourth and final playoff spot in the Western Conference. They'll return home versus the Des Moines Buccaneers on March 11 and 12.
