SLOPPY START LEADS TO 7-4 LOSS

ASHEVILLE--The first two Greensboro Grasshopper batters of Saturday night's game reached base on a pair of Asheville Tourists fielding errors. The miscues led to a three-run Greensboro first inning and set the stage for a long night. The Tourists trailed by as many as six runs before the game ended with the final score of 7-4.

Colby Lusignan was unstoppable for Greensboro. The first-baseman went 5-for-5 including a two-run double in the first inning. Lusignan is the first opposing player to record a five hit game against Asheville this year.

The Grasshoppers tallied one in the fourth and two more in the fifth to take a 6-0 lead. Asheville rallied for runs in the fifth and sixth innings, but trailed 7-2 entering the bottom of the ninth. An RBI groundout by Jacob Bosiokovic along with an RBI single by Manny Melendez accounted for the Tourists final two runs.

Asheville had several chances to score in innings where they came up empty. The Tourists put the leadoff man aboard in seven of the nine frames and had two runners on base with no outs on four separate occasions. Unfortunately, double-plays and runners thrown out on the base paths derailed a number of their scoring chances.

Jose Gomez finished 3-for-5 and Joel Diaz reached base four times for Asheville in the loss. Ty Culbreth suffered his first defeat of the year as the lefty pitched 4.1 innings and allowed five runs; only two of which were earned.

The series wraps up on Sunday afternoon with a 2:05pm first pitch. Following Sunday's contest, the Tourists will enjoy their first off day of the season.
