Rancho Cucamonga Quakes News Release

Rancho Cucamonga, CA - The Rancho Cucamonga Quakes dropped game one of the series against the Visalia Rawhide, losing 8-3 on Friday night at LoanMart Field.

Quakes starter Michael Boyle committed two throwing errors, leading to two unearned runs in the loss.

The Rawhide struck first, scoring one run in the first inning after Boyle's first error brought home a run. In the fourth, Marty Herum hit an RBI double to the gap and two batters later, Henry Castillo ripped an RBI single to make it 3-0 Visalia.

The Quakes started a comeback bid in the fourth inning. Johan Mieses led off the frame with a solo home run, his team-leading 25th of the season, to cut Visalia's lead to 3-1. It was Mieses' seventh home run and 16th RBI in his last ten games.

After Visalia added another run in the top of the fifth, the Quakes answered with a run in the bottom of the inning as Noah Perio produced an RBI groundout, scoring Devan Ahart pulling the Quakes within two runs.

Rancho cut the lead to 4-3 after Garrett Kennedy hit a two-out RBI single, scoring Ariel Sandoval. That was as close as the Quakes came, however, as the Rawhide tacked on insurance with one run in the seventh, and three in the ninth to put the game away.

Markus Solbach (2-1) picked up the win for the Rawhide. He allowed three earned runs on eight hits in 5.2 innings. Nick Baker, Bud Jeter and Jency Solis combined for 3.1 scoreless innings out of Visalia's bullpen.

Boyle (0-2) was tabbed with the loss after allowing four runs (two earned) on five hits in six innings. Dodgers major league rehabber Casey Fien allowed one run on two hits in the second day of back-to-back outings. Gavin Pittore was roughed up in his Quakes debut, allowing three earned runs on four hits in 1.2 innings.

The Quakes (23-25, 65-52) continue their six-game home stand with game two against the Visalia Rawhide on Saturday. Rancho's starting pitcher for the game two matchup is RHP Adam Bray (1-0, 6.46 ERA). The Rawhide will send RHP Brad Keller (8-6, 4.32 ERA) to the mound. First pitch at LoanMart Field is at 7:05 p.m.
