Joliet Slammers News Release

Joliet, IL - The Joliet Slammers presented by ATI Physical Therapy welcomed back the Windy City Thunderbolts for game two after Joliet took game one of the series at home last night.

On a night where the wind was reaching upwards of 20 mph out to right field there was a sense that there might be some tape measure home runs. The pitching matchup featured Skylar Janisse for Joliet and TJ Santiago making his debut for Windy City.

The Slammers jumped on Santiago after the first two men reached in the 1st inning and on the first pitch Juan Silva unloaded with a 3-run home run to right-center field that rode the jet stream well beyond Power Alley. Santiago continued to fall behind batters as Spencer Navin and Chaz Meadows also drove in runs in the 1st inning as ten men came to the plate in a 6-run first inning.

Joliet continued to hit the ball out of the yard as Danny Zardon hit a solo shot to right field to make it 7-0 Joliet. Santiago began to settle down as he became more confident in his slider, but after a quiet third inning Josh Merrigan hit his first home run in a Slammers' uniform in the 4th inning. Janisse continued to be effective not allowing a run through 4 innings of work. The Thunderbolts picked up a pair in the 5th as Coco Johnson doubled home Riley Krane and Keenyn Walker making it 8-2.

Travis Bolin led off the 5th with the Slammers' 4th home run of the night and Juan Silva notched his 4th RBI of the night, until the Bolts' bullpen tamed the Slammers' offense not allowing a run after the 5th inning.

Skylar Janisse got the victory as TJ Santiago got the loss in his season debut for Windy City. Slammers won 10-2.

Juan Silva is the Merchants and Manufacturer's Player of the Game with his 3-run home run and RBI single.

Game 3 is set for tomorrow as Joliet goes for the sweep at 1:05pm.
