Joliet Slammers News Release

(Joliet, IL) - The Joliet Slammers, presented by ATI Physical Therapy, announced Thursday the addition of infielder Bobby Burk and LHP Lucas Goodgion to the team's roster.

Burk, 25, has three years of Frontier League experience and won the league title in 2010 with the River City Rascals. His best season as a professional came in 2011 with the Rascals when he set career highs in home runs (17), RBI (58) and batting average (.272). Joliet manager Mike Breyman served as the Rascals' hitting coach both of those seasons.

"I have watched Bobby grow into a good professional hitter throughout his career," Breyman said. "Bobby will get an opportunity to play multiple positions in spring training and that's where his value lies. He not only has the potential to be a valuable offensive presence; he is also very versatile defensively. Bobby Burk is a proven winner and I couldn't be more excited for us to work together again."

Goodgion, 23, is an alum of the NAIA powerhouse Lewis-Clark State College and was a 33 rd round pick of the Tampa Bay Rays in the 2012 MLB June Amateur Draft. After signing with the Rays, he put up impressive numbers with the Rookie-level Gulf Coast League Rays. Goodgion posted a 1.80 ERA in 12 appearances and picked up two saves. He walked eight batters while striking out 22 in 25 innings of work.

"We were looking for a proven left-handed rookie and that's exactly what we are getting," Breyman said. "We are looking for Goodgion to fortify the back end of the bullpen, but he also has starting experience and that can never hurt. Luke is excited to come in and compete and is determined to do great things for the Slammers."
