Skyforce Dominates Bayhawks In Fourth Quarter En Route To Victory

SIOUX FALLS, SD - The Sioux Falls Skyforce outscored the Erie BayHawks 40-20 in the fourth quarter, on the back of Reggie Williams' 17-point period, to overcome a 17-point first half deficit and secure a 110-101 victory at the Sioux Falls Arena tonight.

The Skyforce entered the fourth quarter down 11 points, but took the lead for good with 7:15 to play in the game during a 29-6 run that gave the home team a 99-87 lead with three minutes to play. After being held to under 10 points in the first 10 minutes of the fourth quarter, Erie chipped away at the Skyforce's lead, cutting it to as few as five points, 101-106, with 23 seconds to play.

Williams led all scorers with 35 points, while Erie's Jackie Manuel led six BayHawks scoring in double figures with 20 points. John Bryant scored 12 points and pulled down 14 boards for Erie and Greg Stiemsma finished with 10 points and a game-high 16 rebounds for the Skyforce.

The teams traded baskets for the first half of the first quarter knotting at 14 with just over five minutes to play before Erie scored 10 unanswered points to lead 24-14 with two minutes left in the first. Cedric Jackson led the BayHawks in the opening stanza, scoring 10 points in the period on five-of-five shooting from the floor. At the end of one, Erie led 31-18.

Sioux Falls came out shooting in the second quarter, outscoring the BayHawks 14-3 in the opening minutes of the period to bring the Skyforce within three, 32-35, with seven minutes to play. But, Erie answered back, extending the team's lead to as many as 15 points before going to the locker room up 55-43.

At the half, Jackson led all scorers with 12 points to go with a game-high seven assists. David Bailey and Keith Brumbaugh led the way for Sioux Falls going into the third quarter with 11 points apiece while Greg Stiemsma grabbed 11 boards in the first half.

Reggie Williams led the way for Sioux Falls in the third, scoring 12 points on four-of-nine from the floor while Erie's Donell Taylor spearheaded the BayHawks offense in the third, scoring 10 of his team's 26 points in the period. The BayHawks led by 11, 81-70, going into the game's final quarter.

The teams return to the Sioux Falls Arena tomorrow night for the second game of a two-game series. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m.
