Colorado Springs Sky Sox News Release

COLORADO SPRINGS, CO - The Colorado Springs Sky Sox offense struggled for the second straight game on Saturday as they fell to the Oklahoma City Dodgers 5-1 in game two of their doubleheader on Saturday night as the Dodgers swept the twin bill at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark.

After holding the Dodgers offense in check for the first two games of the series, the Dodgers turned the tables in Saturday's doubleheader. After the 1-0 win in the first game, the Dodgers again got off to a good start in game two.

In the second, Sky Sox starter Josh Hader (1-6, 5.18) got into a jam. With the bases loaded and one out, Hader's pitch was missed by catcher Michael McKenry for a passed ball, allowing O'Koyea Dickson to hustle home from third with the game's first run. A few batters later, Drew Maggi broke the game open in the Dodgers favor with a grand slam to left field, giving the Dodgers a 5-0 lead after two innings.

Hader rebounded after the grand slam to retire the final seven batters he faced to end his start. The Sky Sox southpaw pitched four innings, allowing five earned runs on four hits while walking three and striking out two. He suffered his sixth loss of the season.

The five runs proved to be enough support for Oklahoma City starter Lisalverto Bonilla (3-5, 4.66). Over the first three innings, he allowed just a pair of hits to keep the Dodgers ahead.

After allowing a leadoff walk to Garrett Cooper in the fourth, Bonilla retired the next six batters he faced to get through five with the shutout intact. Lewis Brinson led off the sixth with a single, but Bonilla rebounded to retire the next three batters he faced to keep the Dodgers up 5-0 after five and a half innings.

In relief of Hader, Brooks Hall came in out of the Sky Sox bullpen. He pitched a scoreless inning and a third, allowing just a single hit while striking out one to hold the deficit at five. Stephen Peterson entered in relief in the sixth and got the final two outs of the inning to send the game to the seventh with the Dodgers still up 5-0.

In the seventh, Bonilla returned to the mound looking to complete the shutout, cut the Sky Sox had other plans. Michael McKenry led off the inning with a double. A couple batters later, Kyle Wren singled to center to score McKenry with the Sky Sox first run of the night to break the shutout and cut the lead to 5-1. The Sky Sox wouldn't get any closer as Bonilla finished the complete game victory by inducing a ground out from Nate Orf to end the game and give the Dodgers a doubleheader sweep.

Brinson recorded a pair of hits in the loss and the Sky Sox bullpen pitched a pair of scoreless innings.

In the series finale on Sunday night, Wei-Chung Wang (1-1, 5.02) is scheduled to get the start for the Sky Sox against Jose De Leon (6-1, 2.86). First pitch is scheduled for 5:05 p.m. at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark.
