Sky Sox Fall to Sounds, 5-2 in Second Game

August 7, 2009 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1)
Colorado Springs Sky Sox News Release

The Nashville Sounds bounced back to win the second game of a doubleheader over the Colorado Springs Sky Sox by the score of 5-2. 7,366 fans took in the contest on Friday evening at Security Service Field.

Colorado Springs got on the board first with two runs in their first time at bat as Eric Young Jr. tripled to start things off. Mike McCoy plated him on a sac fly as Young Jr. scored his 104th run of the season to tie him with Clint Barmes for the second most runs scored by a member of the Sky Sox in a single season. Matt Miller followed with a single and advance to second on a throwing error and was driven in on an RBI single by Dan Ortmeier.

The early lead wouldn't hold up though as Nashville stormed back to score three runs in the third on three straight RBI hits and two more in the fifth to take a 5-2 lead that the Sox couldn't overcome.

Sounds starter Lindsay Gulin (6-7) looked solid as he turned in the complete game effort. He picked up the win after giving up just two runs on six hits in his seven innings of work. Kurt Birkins (2-2) took the loss after surrendering five runs (four earned) on four hits and three walks over 4.1 innings of work.

The series finale tomorrow night will feature RH Brandon Hynick (9-7, 3.57) for the Sox versus the Sounds' LH Chris Narveson (4-4, 3.82). Game time is set for 7:05 PM.
