Colorado Springs Sky Sox News Release

COLORADO SPRINGS, CO - The Colorado Springs Sky Sox again struggled offensively on the road, as they ended their eight game road trip with a 7-2 loss to the Reno Aces at Greater Nevada Field on Thursday night.

Both pitchers started off the game well as the game remained scoreless going into the third inning.

Reno broke through against Sky Sox starter Aaron Wilkerson (0-2, 8.03) in the bottom of the third. Mitch Haniger hit a one out double to score Jack Reinheimer from second with the game's first run. With two outs and the bases loaded, Carlos Rivero doubled to right to score a pair of runs, but the third run was thrown out at the plate trying to score, giving the Aces a 3-0 lead after three.

The Aces doubled the lead in the fifth as Zach Borenstein hit a three-run home run off Wilkerson to increase the Reno lead to 6-0 after five innings. Wilkerson was pulled after five innings. He allowed six runs, five earned, on eight hits while striking out six. He suffered his second loss of the season.

That proved to be more than enough for Reno starter Matt Buschmann (7-6, 5.03). For the first six innings, the Reno righty allowed just six Sky Sox singles without giving up a run. With two outs in the seventh, the Sky Sox finally got on the board as Michael Reed hit a solo home run to right field, his fourth of the season, to make the score 6-1 Reno at the seventh inning stretch.

In relief of Wilkerson, Austin Ross entered for the Sky Sox in the sixth and pitched two scoreless innings.

In the top of the eighth, Buschmann induced a double play ground out from Kyle Wren to keep the Sky Sox from getting closer.

The Aces added a run off Tyler Cravy in the bottom half to extend the lead to six and send the game to the ninth inning.

Buschmann returned to the mound in the ninth. With one out, Eric Young Jr. reached on a pinch-hit single and Josmil Pinto walked to give the Sky Sox a pair of base runners. Garin Cecchini then singled to right to score Young Jr. from second and get the Sky Sox a run closer.

The Cecchini single ended Buschmann's night. He pitched eight and a third innings, allowing two earned runs on nine hits while striking out eight to earn his seventh win of the season.

Evan Marshall entered for the Aces and got the final two outs to finish off the win. The loss ends a winless road trip for the Sky Sox.

Looking to reverse their fortunes, the Sky Sox return home on Friday night to begin a four game series against the Round Rock Express. Brent Suter (3-4, 3.91) is scheduled to get the start for the Sky Sox. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m. at Security Service Field.
