Colorado Springs Sky Sox News Release

COLORADO SPRINGS, CO - The Colorado Springs Sky Sox continued their longest winning streak since their affiliation with the Milwaukee Brewers began by defeating the Salt Lake Bees 5-4 at Security Service Field on Sunday afternoon to win their fifth consecutive game.

For the Sky Sox, starter Hiram Burgos (2-3, 4.76) was on his game, pitching seven innings in the longest start by a Sky Sox starting pitcher this season to earn his second victory of the season.

In the first, Burgos and the Sky Sox got off to a rough start as the Bees scored three times to take the lead. Sherman Johnson drove in two Salt Lake runs, and the third scored on an error to give the visitors an early 3-0 lead.

The Sky Sox got one back in the bottom half. Keon Broxton led off with a single, and then stole second with Nate Orf at the plate. Broxton was able to score when Orf's line drive was misplayed by Bees first baseman Kyle Kubitza for an error, allowing the Sky Sox first run to score.

Salt Lake took the three-run lead back in the second as Todd Cunningham tripled to score Rafael Ortega from first.

Bees starter Zach Nuding (1-3, 7.75) held the Sky Sox scoreless in the second and third, but couldn't in the fourth.

The Sky Sox loaded the bases to start the inning on singles from Will Middlebrooks and Josmil Pinto and a walk from Jake Elmore. Yadiel Rivera followed with a single that scored Middlebrooks for his first run batted in with the Sky Sox this season. Ben Guez and Keon Broxton each followed with bases loaded walks to score runs and tie the game for the Sky Sox.

Reliever Cody Satterwhite came in and got two quick outs for the Bees with the bases loaded, but couldn't get out of the inning unscathed.

With two outs, Andy Wilkins lined a single to right to score Rivera with the eventual winning run. In each of the last two games, Wilkins has drove in the winning run for the Sky Sox.

Nuding suffered the loss for the Bees after allowing five earned runs on six hits in three innings pitched.

Burgos retired the final 10 batters he faced to finish his outing strong. He struck out three in seven innings while allowing just three earned runs on four hits.

David Goforth came out of the bullpen for the Sky Sox and pitched the final two innings without allowing a run to earn his second save of the season.

The Sky Sox and Bees continue their series tomorrow night at 6:35 p.m. MDT at Security Service Field. Ariel Pena (0-0, 7.24) is scheduled to be on the mound for the Sky Sox.
