COLORADO SPRINGS, CO - Despite a six run comeback by the Sky Sox on Thursday night at Security Service Field, the visiting Las Vegas 51s held on to win 7-6 in the first meeting of the season between the two teams.

In the first inning, Sky Sox starter Taylor Jungmann (1-2, 14.85) got off to a rough start. Travis Taijeron blasted a three run home run to make it 5-0 51s.Then Ty Kelly followed with a home run of his own to make it 6-0 Las Vegas before Jungmann recorded an out.

Jungmann lasted just one third of an inning, allowing six runs on four hits. Brent Suter came in out of the bullpen and finished the first.

The Sky Sox cut into the lead in the bottom half of the inning. Michael Reed walked then stole second. After Orlando Arcia drove a line drive double to center, Andy Wilkins hit a sacrifice fly to right field to score Reed. The Sky Sox got another run when Manny Pina's double to center scored Arcia from third to cut the Las Vegas lead to 6-2.

Out of the bullpen, Suter was strong in relief. He pitched three and two thirds scoreless innings to keep the Sky Sox in the game, striking out five batters while allowing two hits and not issuing a walk.

Arcia scored again in the third inning when Garin Cecchin laced a single to left field to cut the Las Vegas lead to 6-3.

In the fifth inning, Sam Freeman came out of the bullpen to make his Sky Sox debut. Working around a couple base runners, Freeman escaped the inning unscathed.

Wilkins got the Sky Sox closer in the fifth off Las Vegas starter Rafael Montero (2-1, 4.41). With two outs, he launched a solo home run, his fifth of the season, to right field to cut the 51s lead to just a pair.

For the 51s, Montero pitched five innings, allowing four earned runs on eight hits while striking out five.

Freeman returned to the mound and pitched a scoreless sixth for the Sky Sox, then Ariel Pena came out of the bullpen and did the same in the seventh.

Then Reed drove in Rivera with a sacrifice fly to tie the game at six. Josh Edgin struck out Wilkins to end the frame tied, and Edgin would end up the winning pitcher thanks to his offense.

The 51s regained the lead in the eighth on a run scoring single by T.J. Rivera that scored Danny Muno with the go-ahead run.

The Sky Sox nearly tied the game in the ninth, but tying run Nate Orf was thrown out at home plate by Roger Bernadina on Yadiel Rivera's single. Paul Sewald held the Sky Sox scoreless in the ninth to earn the save.

Game two of the series is tomorrow night at 6:35 p.m. at Security Service Field.
