Colorado Springs Sky Sox News Release

COLORADO SPRINGS, CO - The Colorado Springs Sky Sox offense had its best night of the season, scoring 14 runs on 19 hits, including seven runs in the fifth, to beat the Las Vegas 51s 14-6 on Friday night in front of 4,123 at Security Service Field.

Ten different Sky Sox scored at least run, seven recorded multi-hit games, and five drove in at least a pair of runs in the rout.

Sky Sox starter Jorge Lopez (1-2, 6.11) got off to a rough start in the first, allowing four Las Vegas runs in the opening frame. But the Sky Sox offense would quickly cut into the lead.

In the bottom of the first, Orlando Arcia tripled home Yadiel Rivera to score the first Sky Sox run. Then Manny Pina drove him home with a single to right to cut the Las Vegas lead in half.

Nate Orf scored the third Sky Sox run in the second by sliding around a tag at home plate on a sacrifice fly from Rivera.

Colorado Springs was able to tie it at four in the fourth. After Andy Wilkins hit his third first triple of the season, he scored the tying run on another run scoring single from Pina off Las Vegas starter Stolmy Pimentel (0-4, 10.66).

The Sky Sox cashed Pimentel in the fifth. He suffered the loss with seven earned runs on 10 hits in four and a third innings pitched.

Wilkins singled home Arcia to give the Sky Sox the lead in the fifth. After singles from Will Middlebrooks and Shane Peterson loaded the bases, Nate Orf reached on a fielder's choice that scored Wilkins to make it 6-4 Sky Sox. Lopez helped his own cause by lining a single to right, his second hit of the game, to score Middlebrooks. After Rivera tripled to score Orf and Lopez, Arcia came up again and singled home Yadiel Rivera. Wilkins capped the Sky Sox biggest offensive inning of the year with another run scoring single.

Lopez pitched six innings for the Sky Sox, allowing four earned runs on seven hits while striking out two to earn his first career win at the Triple-A level. At the plate, he recorded a multi-hit game as well to help his own cause.

The Sky Sox added to the lead in the eighth on a Shane Peterson triple that scored a pair of runs. Then Peterson scored on a single from Orf to give the Sky Sox their 14th run of the night.

Austin Ross and Drew Gagnon pitched scoreless innings in relief, and Jaye Chapman worked around a home run in the ninth to finish off the Sky Sox win.

The Sky Sox four triples in the game tied a club record that was matched four other times in team history, most recently in 2013.

In game three of the series tomorrow night, Hiram Burgos (2-3, 4.76) will get the start for the Sky Sox against Seth Lugo (3-2, 7.91). First pitch is scheduled for 6:05 p.m. MDT at Security Service Field.
