Skole and Vettleson Lead Harrisburg

Harrisburg Senators News Release
Big hits by Matt Skole and Drew Vettleson led the Harrisburg Senators to a 6-2 win over the New Britain Rock Cats Thursday afternoon at New Britain Stadium. The Senators (24-35) have won back-to-back games for the first time since May 24-25.
Skole pushed Harrisburg ahead in the top of the eighth inning, 3-2, with a two-out RBI single and Drew Vettleson followed with a three-run homer to blow the game open. Skole, who was 2-for-4, also had an RBI single in the first inning. Brian Goodwin finished 2-for-4 with a triple in the first inning and two runs scored. In the second inning, Ricky Hague and Pedro Severino doubled in back-to-back at-bats to tie the game at 2-2. The double for Hague was his team-leading 15th of the year. Both of Skole's RBI and Vettleson's three-run jack all came with two outs. Harrisburg was 4-for-7 with runners in scoring position.
Harrisburg's starter Matthew Spann came close to recording a quality start, but managed just 5.2 innings. The tall lefty allowed just two hits and two runs (one unearned) in his third start with Harrisburg. It was Spann's five walks that did him in as three came in the sixth inning before James Simmons took over. Simmons came through with a strikeout of Will Swanner to strand the bases loaded in the sixth. It was New Britain's best scoring chance of the afternoon after scoring a pair runs in the first inning. Simmons picked up the win as he was perfect in his outing, retiring all seven batters he faced while striking out two. Brian Dupra fired a scoreless ninth inning to finish off the series split.
The Senators return home tomorrow for a six-game home stand, beginning with a three-game series against Trenton's. Friday's game will begin at 7:00 p.m. The pregame show will start at 6:45 p.m. on Fox Sports 1460am, iHeart Radio, and on Tune In.
