NORTH RICHLAND HILLS, TX - Tuesday the North American Hockey League announced it's monthly honors for the best players at each position and Dalton Skelly of the Brahmas was named Defenseman of the Month.

The 20-year-old record four goals and five assists in 11 games played during the month of January. Additionally, Skelly was a +8 and recorded a season-high 31 shots on goal during the stretch.

"[Winning the award] just shows how deep our defense core is.  Any one of these guys could've won this," Skelly said. "I've been trying to walk the line a little bit more along with selling my shot. When I've found a lane I just try and get it to the net and good things have been happening."

Brahmas assistant coach Jeff Potter acknowledged that it was great to see #9 rewarded. "Obviously not everyone can win defenseman of the month. I think Dalton's played some more consistent hockey as of late and it's good for us to now have two winners of this award on our roster."

As mentioned, Skelly joins fellow defenseman Cam Clarke as a recipient with the Ferris State Commit taking home honors for the month of November.

When asked, Clarke was very happy to show support for the newly crowned Brahmas blueliner. "He's been working hard and it's great to see him rewarded for that. I think this is just the start for what can be a really solid stretch of hockey for him."

Running seven defensemen can lead to a mix of partners at times for the Brahmas blue line, but the defenseman of the month doesn't view it as a hinder towards his performance. "All seven guys play and there's an even rotation, so that just proves how deep we really are. You have to play a little different with each guy, but with me being an offensive guy, I normally play with a little bit more of a defensive defenseman. Estes and Zimmerman have been great and I feel I mesh well with both of those guys."

Along with this honor, Dalton will be representing the NAHL South in the Top Prospects Tournament coming up in a few weeks.

You can come check out the award-winner this Friday and Saturday night as the Brahmas play host to the Corpus Christi IceRays at NYTEX Sports Centre. Tickets for both games are available at 817-336-4ICE, atop your screen under the TICKETS tab, or at the box office during normal business hours.
