Skeeters Take 7-1 Win over Bluefish
June 3, 2014 - Atlantic League (AtL)
Sugar Land Space Cowboys News Release
The Skeeters started off the home series with a 7-1 win over Bridgeport tonight. With the win, Sugar Land improves their season record to 16-21 and 7-11 at home. Racking up 12 hits on the night, the team earned six of their seven runs and was able to hold the Bluefish to just one run despite giving up eight hits.
Right hander Matt Wright (6.0,7,1,1,2,6) earned the win after dealing 6.0 innings, allowing one earned run on seven hits with six strikeouts in the series opener against Bridgeport. Wright pitched four scoreless innings before being disrupted in the fifth by a single from Bluefish shortstop Mike Richard, who would end up scoring his team's only run.
After being hit by a pitch, Ryan Langerhans (1x2, 3 R) advanced to third on a double hit by second baseman Chase Lambin. A sacrifice fly by designated hitter Delwyn Young (0x3) then brought in Langerhans for the first run of many on the night. The Skeeters took advantage of a struggling Ty'Relle Harris and plated four more runs before the fifth inning. Langerhans later singled in the seventh and scored following three wild pitches by Bluefish lefty Jesse English, providing Sugar Land an insurance run in their 7-1 lead.
Lambin went 2x5 on the night, while first baseman Nick Stavinoha (2x3) drove in two Skeeter batters. Third baseman Dominic Ramos (3x5) and catcher Danny Lehmann (2x5) also recorded multiple hits against Bridgeport.
Roy Corcoran (1.0,0,0,0,0,1) entered the game in relief in the seventh and did not allow a hit, retiring one Bluefish batter. Jared Wells (1.0,0,0,0,0) then pitched a scoreless eighth frame, giving up just one hit. The final pitcher for the Skeeters was Gary Majewski (1.0,0,0,0,0,0) who pitched a hitless ninth inning at Constellation Field. By doing so, he extended his currently scoreless innings streak to 27.0 innings, spanning 26 appearances since August 18, 2013.
