Skeeters Sign Four to 2013 Roster

SUGAR LAND, TX - The Sugar Land Skeeters announced today that the club has signed outfielders Dustin Martin, Steve Moss and Fernando Perez, as well as right-handed pitcher Matt Wright. The announcement was made by Skeeters Manager Gary Gaetti and Director of Operations Michael Kirk.

Martin spent last season with Triple A Buffalo and Double A Binghamton of the New York Mets organization. He hit at a .257 clip over 28 games with Buffalo, while maintaining a .286 average with 41 RBI in 72 games with Binghamton. Originally selected by the Mets in the 26th round of the June 2006 Draft out of Sam Houston State University, the Corpus Christi, Texas native owns a career .276 average with 416 RBI in 824 minor league games.

Moss makes his return to Sugar Land after hitting .254 with 44 RBI in 83 games with the Skeeters in 2012. He also played in 82 games for Reynosa and Veracruz of the Mexican League last season, combining for a .287 average with 20 home runs and 58 RBI. A 29th round pick of the Milwaukee Brewers in the June 2002 Draft and a veteran of 11 minor league seasons, Moss owns a career .272 average with 115 homers, 545 RBI and 211 doubles in 1,080 games.

Perez, originally a seventh round pick of the Tampa Bay Devil Rays in the June 2004 Draft, played 107 games from 2008-09 with Tampa Bay, holding a career .234 Major League average. Over eight minor league seasons with the Tampa Bay (2004-10), Chicago-NL (2011) and Mets (2011) organizations, Perez owns a .273 average with 252 RBI and 245 career stolen bases.

Wright, credited with throwing the first pitch in Skeeters history last year, went 2-0 with a 2.20 ERA (12ER/49IP) for Sugar Land prior to being picked up by the Philadelphia Phillies organization midseason. Wright finished 2012 with a 1-1 record and a 3.09 ERA (8ER/23.1IP) in seven games (four starts) with Triple A Lehigh Valley. Originally selected by Atlanta in the 21st round of the June 2000 Draft, the right-hander owns a 78-82 career record with a 3.95 ERA (596ER/1358IP) in 265 appearances (229 starts).

Opening Day for the Sugar Land Skeeters is scheduled for Thursday, April 18 at Constellation Field against the 2012 Atlantic League Champion Long Island Ducks.
