Bridgeport Bluefish News Release

(Sugar Land, TX) - The Bridgeport Bluefish (10-20) were defeated by the Sugar Land Skeeters (17-14) 3-0 at Constellation Field on Sunday afternoon in the finale and rubber game of the weekend series and the last of ten regular season games played between the two clubs in the Lone Star State in 2016. Sugar Land went 6-4 in the head to head meetings in front of their faithful. The 'Fish were shutout for the first time in 30 games played.

Bridgeport Starting Pitcher Jonathan Albaladejo (2-2) suffered the loss, lasting six innings, surrendering three runs (two earned runs) on seven hits, walking one and striking out six. The right hander registered his second quality start in his last three appearances on the mound. Sugar Land Starting Pitcher Bryan Morgado (2-3) was victorious after tossing five scoreless innings, allowing three hits, walking one and striking out four. Derrick Loop gave up just one hit in the ninth inning en route to his sixth save.

Sugar Land took the early 1-0 lead on Albaladejo in the home half of the second inning on a two out, opposite field run scoring single to right by Patrick Palmeiro, plating Johan Limonta with the game's first run after he led off the frame with a base knock and a stolen base. The Skeeters would make it 2-0 in their favor in the bottom of the fourth as Beamer Weems drove in Limonta with a single after Limonta laced a leadoff double to begin the rally. The home team would add an insurance run in the fifth inning as Jeremy Barfield belted a two out run scoring double that allowed Ricky Hague to cross the plate after he reached on an error by Josh Vitters and stole second base. That was more than enough run support for Morgado, as the southpaw retired 11 batters in a row between the first and fifth innings. Bridgeport was able to only scratch out five hits in the contest (two doubles and three singles) as they fall to 1-2 on their current six game road trip, and are now just 5-15 in the month of May. Bridgeport returns to the Ballpark at Harbor Yard on Friday, May 27th when they welcome in the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs for a Memorial Day Weekend wraparound series to kick off a seven game homestand. First pitch is scheduled for 7:12 P.M. on LGBTQ Night, and the Bluefish will be giving away Baseball Card Set # 2.
