Skeeters Draw Even in Weekend Series with 7-3 Win

June 23, 2018 - Atlantic League (AtL) - York Revolution News Release

The York Revolution were unable to solve Casey Coleman or quiet the Sugar Land Skeeters' bats, falling 7-3 on Saturday night at PeoplesBank Park.

The Skeeters scored first, putting up four runs on four hits in the third off Revs starter Logan Williamson. The rally started with Alvaro Rondon's leadoff single, before the ninth-place batter advanced on a balk, a steal of third, and scored on an error. The inning also featured an RBI groundout from Kyle Kubitza and a two-out, two-RBI double from Denis Phipps, giving the Skeeters a 4-0 lead.

Sugar Land got another run in the top of the fifth on a two-out RBI single from Courtney Hawkins to extend the lead to 5-1.

Williamson (1-2) lasted four and one-third innings on the night, allowing five runs on six hits with three strikeouts and four walks.

Skeeters starter Casey Coleman carved up the Revs offense early on, retiring the first 10 batters he faced on six strikeouts, including four consecutive strikeouts to begin the game. The Revs didn't get their first hit until Alexi Casilla singled to left field with one out in the fourth.

The Revs got to Coleman the second time through the order, scoring in the fifth on Luis Cruz' RBI groundout, making it a 5-1 game.

That was the only run allowed by Coleman (2-0) who struck out eight batters with no walks while scattering just four hits over six strong frames.

Sugar Land plated two more runs in the seventh inning off Revs reliever Zac Treece to add to their comfortable lead. Kubitza brought home a run with a double to the right-center gap and Hawkins drove in the other run on a single to left, pushing the Skeeters' lead to 7-1.

Tyson Gillies launched a hanging breaking ball over the right field wall for a two-run home run in the eighth for his second homer of the season. The homer came off Skeeters reliever Ben Rowen and made it a 7-3 game.

Notes: Michael Burgess had two hits for the second consecutive night, including another hit off a left-handed pitcher, making him 3-for-4 against lefties in the series. Luke Westphal recorded a ground out and two strikeouts in a seven-pitch ninth inning; he has allowed just two hits in 10.0 scoreless innings over his last nine outings, and has allowed no hits in 7.1 innings over his last six appearances.

Up Next: The Revs and Skeeters will play the rubber match of their three-game series Sunday at 1 p.m. It's the final game of a seven-game homestand for the Revs. RHP Matt Vogel will make his team and season debut, starting for the Revs while LHP Ben Griset (2-2, 4.43) gets the ball for the Skeeters. It is Pirate Day, $1 Dog Day courtesy of Hatfield Quality Meats, and Sunday Funday presented by Weis Markets with a pre-game autograph session, catch on the field, and post-game kids run the bases. Tickets are on sale at YorkRevolution.com, (717) 801-HITS, and in-person at the Revs Ticket Office.
