Skeeters Add Trio of Pitchers to 2013 Roster
SUGAR LAND, TX - The Sugar Land Skeeters announced today that the club has signed right-handed pitchers Scott Elarton and Sean Gallagher and left-handed pitcher Bobby Livingston. The announcement was made by Skeeters Manager Gary Gaetti and Director of Operations Michael Kirk.
Elarton brings 10 years of Major League experience to the Skeeters in 2013. A first round pick of the Houston Astros in the June 1994 Draft, Elarton has spent time with Houston (1998-2001), Colorado (2001-04), Cleveland (2004-05, 2008) and Kansas City (2006-07). During that span, he compiled a 56-61 record with a 5.29 ERA (626ER/1065.1IP) and 698 strikeouts over 232 Major League games (170 starts). Over 13 minor league seasons, the right-hander owns a 74-56 record with a 4.13 ERA (505ER/1101.1IP) and 888 strikeouts in 214 career games (174 starts). Last season, Elarton went 6-11 with a 5.41 ERA (82ER/136.1IP) for Philadelphia's Triple A Lehigh Valley.
Gallagher, originally a 12th round pick of the Chicago Cubs in the June 2004 Draft, spent four seasons in the Major Leagues with Chicago-NL (2007-08), Oakland (2008-09), San Diego (2009-10) and Pittsburgh (2010). In 91 career games (23 starts), he owns a 10-10 Major League record with a 5.64 ERA (130ER/207.1IP). A veteran of nine minor league seasons, Gallagher holds a 54-41 record with a 3.58 ERA (312ER/784.2IP) and 692 strikeouts over 153 games, including 146 starts. Last season, the right-hander went 10-9 with a 4.92 ERA (76ER/139.0IP) for Cincinnati's Triple A Louisville.
Livingston, a returning pitcher for the Sugar Land Skeeters and fourth round pick of the Seattle Mariners in the June 2001 Draft, has spent two seasons in the big leagues with Seattle (2006) and Cincinnati (2007). During that stint, he compiled a 3-3 record with a 6.31 ERA (43ER/61.1IP) over 13 Major League games, including 10 starts. Over 11 minor league seasons, the left-hander owns a 90-66 record with a 4.01 ERA (627ER/1406.1IP) and 911 strikeouts over 241 games (225 starts). Last season, Livingston went 9-2 with a 4.37 ERA (45ER/92.2IP) in 16 starts for the Skeeters.
Skeeters FanFest is set for Saturday, April 6 at Constellation Field from 11 a.m. - 2 p.m. just outside of the main entrance of the ballpark. The first 500 fans receive a free t-shirt, while single game tickets for the 2013 season officially go on sale in conjunction with the FanFest activities. Season ticket holders and eight-game plan holders will also be able to pick up their ticket packages during the event.
Opening Day for the Sugar Land Skeeters is scheduled for Thursday, April 18 at Constellation Field against the 2012 Atlantic League Champion Long Island Ducks.
