Look Back:

The San Jose Barracuda (18-12-5-3, 44pts, .579%) presented by Barracuda Networks chomped one out of a possible four points (0-1-1-0) in two games last week as they remain in 2nd place in the Pacific Division. The Barracuda began the weekend with a 3-2 overtime loss at Ontario on Jan 22 and then lost to the Reign on Jan 23 at the SAP Center by the score of 2-1. The Barracuda have now played an AHL high 14 overtime games this season which includes seven of their last 12 games.

The Barracuda hold a playoff position with the 2nd spot in the Pacific and are now 15-6-5-2 in their last 28 games overall. Head coach Roy Sommer remains with 635 wins, trailing only Fred "Bun" Cook (636 wins) for the most wins in AHL history.

It was a quiet week for the Barracuda in regards to transactions. Raffi Torres (conditioning assignment) and Ben Smith (loan from Sharks) are currently still with the SJ Barracuda. San Jose Barracuda forward Ryan Carpenter will join Barclay Goodrow at the 2016 Toyota AHL All-Star Classic. Carpenter, 25, leads the Barracuda in points (32), assists (25), and +/- (+16) in 36 AHL games this season. Ryan made his NHL debut for the San Jose Sharks vs. the Minnesota Wild on Dec 12, 2015.

Trevor Parkes (4-3-7) and Bryan Lerg (2-5-7) each are riding a Barracuda high five game point streak headed into the week. Jeremy Langlois picked up two assists in two games last week for San Jose while Aaron Dell (31 saves on Jan 22) and Troy Grosenick (23 saves on Jan 23) each played well in between the pipes. The Barracuda have dropped a season high four straight games (0-2-2-0) as they embark on a five game road trip beginning this week.

The San Jose Barracuda player of the week nominee is forward Bryan Lerg. The 30-year-old from Livonia, Michigan recorded two points (0-2-2) in two games with the Barracuda last week and now has a five game point streak (2-5-7).

MILESTONE ALERT:

Head Coach Roy Sommer (635 wins) surpassed Frank Mathers (1256 games coached) for the most games coached in AHL history on March 26, 2014 in the Sharks 5-3 win in Lewiston, ME over the Portland Pirates. Coach Sommer has coached 1382 AHL games - all with the SJ Sharks AHL affiliates. In total, Coach Sommer has been a head coach in 1,713 games in the AHL and ECHL. Coach Sommer picked up his 600th career AHL win in a 4-3 victory in Lehigh Valley on Feb 4, 2015 and surpassed Frank Mathers (610 wins) for 2nd all-time in AHL history on March 27 in Springfield with his 611th win! Roy needs 1 win to tie Fred "Bun Cook" (636 wins) for the most wins in AHL history!

The San Jose Barracuda (18-11-5-3, 44pts) presented by Barracuda Networks gave up a 2-0 lead through 40 minutes and dropped a 3-2 overtime decision to the host Ontario Reign (23-10-2-1, 49pts) in front of 8,299 fans at the Citizens Bank Arena on Friday evening. Goaltender Aaron Dell (6-7-5) made 31 saves while Karl Stollery and Trevor Parkes scored 1st period goals for the Barracuda as San Jose is now to 9-2-5-0 in their last 16 games. Ontario scored twice in the third period, including the game tying goal with just 1:32 left on their 7th power play of the game and with the extra attacker on the ice. Nic Dowd (9th) won the game just 28 seconds into the extra frame with a wicked shot on an odd man to complete the comeback.

The San Jose Barracuda (18-12-5-3, 44pts) presented by Barracuda Networks dropped their season high 4th straight game (0-2-2-0) with a 2-1 loss to the visiting Ontario Reign (24-10-2-1, 51pts) in front of 5,624 fans at the SAP Center on Saturday evening. Troy Grosenick (10-5-3) made 23 saves and Trevor Parkes (1-0-1) scored the lone goal. Sean Backman (1-0-1) scored the game-winning goal at the end of the first period for the Reign as Peter Budaj (22-9-2) made 19 saves in net.

Al made 21 saves in a 5-1 win over the Texas Stars on Jan 3 in his first AHL start since April 20, 2013 at Syracuse. Stalock picked up his 80th AHL win on Jan 6 and as recalled by the Sharks on Jan 7 after posting a 2-0-0 record with the Barracuda along with a 1.96 GAA and a .930 save %.

*PT a game in AHL... forward Chris Tierney picked up two assists in his Barracuda debut on Jan 3. Tierney now has 32 points (9-23-32) in 31 games in the AHL with Worcester and San Jose.

*Racking up PIMS... forward Alex Gallant has 85 penalty minutes in his last 12 games (10 minor, 9 majors, a ten minute misconduct, and a game misconduct).

*Piling up the goals... Barclay Goodrow leads the Barracuda with 14 goals in just 30 games this season.

*Shootout success... goaltender Aaron Dell has stopped 12 of 13 shooters he has faced in the shootout this season. (.923%)

*1st pro hat trick... Barclay Goodrow recorded his first professional hat trick in the Barracuda's 7-6 overtime win over the Condors on Dec 6. Goodrow scored three tiebreaking goals, the last coming 23 seconds into overtime as San Jose defeated Bakersfield, 7-6. The hat trick was the first multiple-goal game of Goodrow's professional career, and gave him seven points in a span of less than 21 hours.

*1st pro hat trick X2.... Nikolay Goldobin scored three goals, added an assist, and was +4 in the Barracuda's 5-1 win over the Texas Stars on Jan 3, 2016.

*Plus Player... Ryan Carpenter registered an AHL season high +5 in San Jose's 7-6OTW vs. Bakersfield on Dec 5. Carpenter leads the Barracuda with a +16 rating this season.

*Monkey of the back...Petter Emanuelsson scored his first two goals of the season on Dec 5 in the 7-6OTW vs. the Condors. The goals broke an 18 game goalless drought to start the season and were his first since Oct 24, 2014 vs. Syracuse.

*Lots of saves... goaltender Troy Grosenick made 49 saves in the 4-3SOL at Stockton on Nov 21. The 49 saves was a career high for Troy and the most saves by a goaltender this season in the AHL.

*Nice Record... Grosenick is 5-1-0 in his last seven starts and 10-2-2 in his last 15 starts overall.

*Strange but true... the Barracuda are 0-3-0-1 vs. the Gulls at the SAP Center and have been outscored 4-14 in the process...meanwhile the Barracuda are 3-0-1-0 vs. the Gulls in San Diego with an 12-10 scoring edge.

*Cooling off the Heat... the Barracuda are 5-0-0-1 in four games vs. the Stockton Heat this season and hold a 26-16 scoring advantage.

Barclay Goodrow scored the first Barracuda goal of the game at 18:37 of the second period in San Jose's 3-2 loss to the Gulls. The teddy bears were donated to local charities last week.

*Doubleheaders... the first of 13 Sharks/Barracuda doubleheaders at the SAP Center occurred on Saturday, Nov 7. The Barracuda fell to the SD Gulls (AHL affiliate of the Anaheim Ducks) 3-2 at 1:15pm while the Sharks dropped a 1-0 game to the Ducks at 7:30pm. The next doubleheader is Saturday, Feb 13. - The San Jose Barracuda picked up their first win in franchise history in a 4-1 victory over the Heat in Stockton on Oct 15.

- Mirco Mueller became the first defenseman to score a goal for the Barracuda in the 4-2 win vs. Ontario on Nov 1.

*Pro Debuts: Patrick McNally and Nikita Jevpalovs each made their professional debuts for the Barracuda on Oct 9....Adam Helewka made his professional debut Oct 15 at Stockton.
